Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Battery isolator
Can I fit a battery isolator switch to my TF Stepspeed ?? I know I will lose the alarm and remote unlock functions, but can I isolate the battery for the times the car is under used (I appreciate that "under use" is heresy!!) for a month or so. Reading other posts, it looks like I might have to click and unclick the remote key two or three times to re-synch the fob, but are there any other potential problems? Thanks

Re: Battery isolator
Using a similar system for years now, initially on both my F and TF, where I ise a key in my C. Yes it works well on all models including Pektron controlled. BUT. Be aware the isolator wears and after a couple of years it is not working fine anymore. It kept my F’s and TF’s batteries well over periods with very limited or just limited use of the MG. The old fashioned key system as used in classic cars is doing better, but where to install in an F or TF.

Re: Battery isolator
Removing the negative clamp from the battery always isolates it quite well, does not require additional hardware and is quick to recomnect.

Re: Battery isolator
You can absolutely use a battery isolator on our cars. I have one on Project Shed - in fact two, but one is a competition unit for killing the engine in the event of an emergency, while the other is an isolator in the earth strap.
In some ways, it is easier to simply disconnect the earth strap from the battery. But if you want to use an isolator switch, you just need to think about how and where to install it, and generally, these are best put into the earth strap line.
