Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Coolant pond on cam carrier

Post by RobboMC » Fri Apr 12, 2024 6:11 am

I am getting a small pond of coolant in the hollow ABOVE the inlet manifold on the timing belt end of the engine.

The coolant loss is so small it hardly ever needs topping up, so I'd call it a weep? ; but it must be coming out from somewhere.

It is well above the head gasket level, so I'm assuming inlet manifold gasket???
Gasket was replaced with a new one when the new engine was put in; 50,000 km ago but it's been 9 years or driving.

Any other possibilities?

So far the only symptom is a slight but unmistakable aroma of coolant.
Engine runs at correct temperature.

Standard 1.8 Mpi engine of the M13 variety ( 1800 - air con - auto )
attached to a manual gearbox

I guess I will have to drop the coolant level to replace the gasket, and do a full bleed again.
