After discussion of the TF's suspension recently on this board, I was asked to give the standard settings for a 4-wheel alignment and thought it would be useful to have a sticky.

Note, these are the Standard settings and not the 'Sports' settings (for use with Sports Pack 1, or X-Power springs). I will post the 'Sports' settings later.


Standard settings for the TF are given in degrees and minutes, degrees and decimal degrees, or millimeters, so as to suit the differing alignment gauges in use. They are as follows:

Front Wheel Alignment - Toe Out per side:

• 0 degrees +/- 6 minutes
  0 degrees +/- 0.1 degrees
  0 mm +/- 0.665 mm (15" wheels)
  0 mm +/- 0.709 mm (16" wheels)

Front Wheel Camber - Negative:

• 0 degrees 30 minutes +/- 30 minutes
  0.5 degrees +/- 0.5 degrees
  3.315 mm +/- 0.315 mm

Front Wheel Castor - Positive:

• 4 degrees 50 minutes +/- 1 degree
  4.83 degrees +/- 1 degree
  29.98 mm +/- 6.71 mm

King Pin Inclination:

• 11 degrees 40 minutes
  11.71 degrees
  78.71mm

Rear Wheel Alignment - Toe In per side:

• 0 degrees 15 minutes =/- 6 minutes
  0.25 degrees +/- 0.1 degree
  1.662 mm +/- 0.67 mm (15" wheels)
  1.772 mm +/- 0.71 mm (16" wheels)

Rear Wheel Camber - Negative:

• 1 degree +/- 30 minutes
  1 degree + / - 0.5 degree
  6.71 mm +/- 0.315 mm

will wait for sport setting as i have xpower springs but my car is on the std settings at this time, hope the sport ones are the same or nearly (no tyre wear noticed ) 17" wheels

Hi to you all - maybe I'm loosing the "plot" - is all I know about this is there's the standard MGTF 135 then there's the 160. The 160 is lowered so therefore the settings MUST be different to the 135? This is not mentioned in the 'replies' so am getting a bit confused (which is normal for me!).
Do you refer to 'Standard' as the 135 and 'Sports' the 160 or what? Again, the kits have 'Sports' settings etc NOW I'm really confused????? Maybe you can help me Debs.

Peter, the standrad TF135 and the standard TF160 have exactly the same suspension, suspension settings and ride height.

The 'sports' suspension was an optional extra (refered to by MG as Sports Pack 1), and it lowered the ride height by 10mm.

you beat me to it Steve!

Now I'm eally confused Colin.
I was under the clear impression that the TF 160 is with the larger front discs & 4 pot calipers. But also because of this difference it was also lowered by 20mm & caqlled 'The Sports Suspension'. My car is a 2004 LE Coupe for the Aust market and one of 30 Limited Edition cars. It had every extra MG had at the time.
Sorry I'm pressing this point but would like to clear it up.

MG offered 3 sports pack options as 'optional extras' for the TF:-
Sports pack 1 - 10mm lowered suspension (dampers are the same is standard but the lower spring platform in a different place) - £150
Sports Pack 2 - Uprated front disc brakes and callipers, 16" 11 spoke alloys - £850
Sports pack 3 - Uprated front disc brakes and callipers, 16" Ultra lightweight alloys - £1,850

TF160 all came with Sports pack 2 fitted as standard, but sports pack 1 was an optional extra.
All 3 sports packs were optional extras on the TF135.
None of the 3 sports packs were optional for the TF115
Some LE's and SE's also came with SP2 fitted as part of the specification though, hence there are TF115 around with SP2.

These are the 'Sports' settings (for use with Sports Pack 1, or X-Power springs):


Front Wheel Alignment - Toe Out per side:

0 degrees +/- 6 minutes
0 degrees +/- 0.1 degrees


Front Wheel Camber - Negative:

0 degrees +/- 05 minutes
0 degrees +/- 0.08 degrees



Front Wheel Castor - Positive:

5 degrees 28 minutes +/- 1 degree
5.47 degrees +/- 1 degree



King Pin Inclination:

11 degrees 40 minutes
11.67 degrees +/-1 degree



Rear Wheel Alignment - Toe In per side:

0 degrees 30 minutes =/- 6 minutes
0.5 degrees +/- 0.1 degree



Rear Wheel Camber - Negative:

1 degrees 33 minutes +/- 30 minutes
1.55 degrees + / - 0.5 degree

Hi Debs and this thread participants.
Still not too clear on nall this for my car.
It looks like my car has the Sports Pack 2 suspension fitted.
Are the settings for SP 1 the same as for SP 2?
Would be great to hear from you again Debs or any one else who can answer this for me.

Peter, I think you still have your sports packs confused
Sports pack 2 doesn't include any alterations to the suspension.

The sports pack that changes which setting should be used, is Sports pack 1.
Sports pack 1 can be fitted on its own, or together with sports pack 2.
Sports pack 2 could also be fitted on its own, without sports pack 1.

In simple terms, if you have Sports Pack 1 (10mm lower ride height) or have fitted x-power sports springs, then you should use the 'sports' settings. If you have a standard ride height then you should use the 'standard' settings Deb gave in the first post.

Thank you all for your help. I've had a very close look at the specs for my particular car. I have Sports Pack 2 AND what they say is "Uprated Suspension" - my question now is, what is "Uprated Suspension"?

Iif its SP1, the front struts should have the number RND000700 stamped on them near the base.

Back again Pete - the number I obtained from the lower part of the shocky is RND000271. This is not the number you gave me. so, does it suggest I have the standard shockies & NOT SP1? Cheers.

well being as they are not SP1 shocks that only leaves the standard ones so its an almost definite maybe that you have std suspension
