Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Steering Rack Identification ?

Post by Dieter K » Fri May 08, 2009 11:37 am

Hi,

I know, you all know there's a difference between the LHD and RHD steering racks.
Also there's a different rack installed to the MG TF.
(see at Rob's site for swapping in a TF rack to an MGF)

Anyway:
This are numbers found on both racks in LHD country
35 704 249
35 700 249

(no reference to the official P/N unfortunately, which are written here http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/6777.htm
The question is, which is MG TF (2.8 turns) and which belongs to the MGF (3.2 turns)

Everybody out there with a TF or MGF steering rack in the garage please look up his code on the rack and post it here.
I'll put the results for either LHD or RHD racks to my above EPC then .

Thank You

Regards
Dieter

OK, no answer. And no wonder there isn't any.
These figures are no evidence for either a TF or MGF steering rack. Theres also a 35 703 249 existing.
Assue it's only the mold number.

Dieter, I've got a couple of steering racks - RHD MGF and TF items - I'll check the codes on these for you, but might be a while, as the house and garage is in chaos due to building work!!!
