Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Door Mirror

Post by Fletch29 » Sat Aug 29, 2009 8:34 pm

I've just managed to break the adjusting handle of my drivers door mirror :( . Two questions, it is non-elecrtic yet there are two wire from inside the door leading to the mirror why? The plastic pin has broken and does not look repairable, I've seen a couple on e-bay but they seem a bit pricey. Are there any cheaper alternatives for example Rover 25 or similar :?:

All the F/TF mirrors are heated hence the wires. Only really noticable in the cold but the mirrors are always heated ie: no switch, operate as soon as you start the car.

It didn't fall of just for fun without any cause ;)
As that is the usual way....

Originally these are heated but apparently after a number of years on 12V the heating elements usually die.

Some of the handles are broken others might be available at a breakers... Plenty of after market solutions available, at any price. Top of the range solution: Change over to Mk2 electric windows.
