Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Exhaust vibration at about 2200 rpm

Post by Phil MGFPM » Sun Dec 27, 2009 5:16 pm

Has anyone experienced a vibration (almost a whirring noise) as the MGF crosses the 2200 rpm region. This is both when in neutral or under load; its only a fraction of a second and then it goes as the revs change; a mechanic said to me that it was the exhaust vibrating but I don't know exactly where to look for and how to cure it. It wasn't there when I first bought the car but only when a new back pipe and CAT were fitted. Must be something simple I think? Thanks

Can't think of anything specific (or history based),did a garage fit the exhaust ?, if so, I would suggest take it back to them and get them to look at it. It sounds like it could be back pressure, but I don't really know why you should get this problem if the exhaust is good. Was the one fitted new ? What do you mean by "back pipe" ? The only parts are the manifold, the cat and the silencer and connecting pipes.

Hi Adrian, all that was fitted was a new CAT and silencer box. Phil
