Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!

MGF Hood Problem
Hi
I'm new to the forum so please bear with me.....Okay i've recently serviced my 2000 MGF and as with all MGF's I had to disconnect the rear part of the hood to access the engine. When it came to refit the hood after the service I found that the hood would not fit flush as it had done previously at the rear and sides. I am now getting water coming in from the sides which again i did not have a problem with previously. I have tried everything including taking all old foam debris from the channel where the hood sits. I have tried washing up liquid around the rubber seals to attempt to make it easier for the hood to slide into place. I cannot understand why the hood won't go back to it's original position. Can anyone help and tell me if they have had the same problem and how to overcome it.
Sean

Re: MGF Hood Problem
Sean,
Normally this shouldn't be a problem, but did you unlatch the hood at the winscreen clamps before you tried to replace the rear section? It's very likely that it's just a seating problem. Don't forget that the rear screen should be unzipped too.

Re: MGF Hood Problem
This is going to be something simple, I am sure. Have all the clamps been replaced as before?

Re: MGF Hood Problem
Yes. all clamps as before, a problem maybe where the corners have a fold over for excess material and not allowing me to push the hood right down. However, it fitted prior to me servicing the car so i'm confused as to why it won't fit as it did before. very Very frustrating.

Re: MGF Hood Problem
Sometimes the hood can be a little tricky to get back into position, but usually snapping all the clamps back on is enough to drop the rear frame back into the deck platform.
A picture of the problem would certainly help?

Hi guys, soory not been ack with pics...i will try and sort that out and get them on. I think it's the material at the corners that's causing the problems. I've spent days trying to sort this out. Pictures to follow........

When you reply to a post, at the bottom of the screen where you write your post, you will see an upload attachment tag. You can use this to put a picture direct in the post. Browse to find your picture on your PC and then press the add the file button. Remember though, you may need to reduce down the size of your picture to allow it to show better on the screenseanmurrell wrote:Hi

Re: MGF Hood Problem
Looks like the clips are not pulling it down far enough, here is mine
Re: MGF Hood Problem
Part of your problem is there - I'm guessing the rear screen has been replaced at some point? The rubber water channel should be cut short so that the metal stiffener pulls in tighter when the rear of the hood is rivetted together..
It's probably been bashed down into the tonneau to fit down in the past...

Re: MGF Hood Problem
I see - perhaps the hood just needs pushing down into the deck a little further (a bit of pursuation perhaps? ) but apart from that, it might be worth just making sure that the retaining strips are attached securely - they're often removed when the rear screen is replaced, and I guess it's possible that they've not been put back quite right?
