Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Resetting the Service Interval Indicator LE500 and new TF 13

Post by MGFmad » Mon Oct 10, 2011 9:12 pm

Now that my LE500 is out of warranty I am wanting to find out how to reset the service interval display myself. I previously asked MG and they said it had to be done either by T4 or GDS (I think that is what they said - whatever GDS is lol)

Its a simple display that starts off at 15000 and counts down then says 'oil service due'

Would it be logical to assume that as the revised instrument panel was something that MG Rover worked on prior to their demise in 2005, then its the same basis as used on the Rover 75/ZT? I think this also uses the 15000 mile interval but also has inspection in addition to oil service so more complex

I could get a Rover service light reset tool and try it but don't want to fry the ECU if I do it wrong

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome

Good question :thumbsu:

GDS stands for "Global Diagnostic System"
See i.e. @ http://www.omitec.com/en/news/nag-mg/
Assume you could ask any backyard garage to reset her ECU brain
