Hi im not very good with cars but i will try and explain the problem best i can and in replys ask that you put it as simple as possible thanks
i have a mg mgf 1996 bought it just over a year ago and had no problems
over the last few months my alarm used to go off ramdomly but would be fine for a week or so then decide to go off i had it put on a testy thing and nothing was found i had the wires checked and every was ok
i then relised that when i locked the car with the buttons it locked doors fine and if the lights at the side flashed the car would be fine but if the lights at the side of the car didnt flash the alarm would go off
now when i lock the car the doors lock fine but the lights never flash at the side anymore so the alarm will always go off
the button key thingy locks the car fine also does the imobliser ok (some times takes a few attempts)
would really like some help please as its driving me mad the car alarm still goes off even if i lock with the key the way i am getting around it is my dad fitted a battery thing that i have to unscrew every time i park then screw back on to start again which is getting so annoing

Re: MGF alarm help please :)
Deadlock is an extra release making it more difficult to open the car without a key. The inner pin is released from the locking mechanism itself. The extra click is the sound that comes with it.
I would say there is a fault in the alarm system somewhere, the lights should pop up at activating the alarm. no blinking might be an indication some of the doors (probably the engine cover or front cover) is not locked well (from the alarm point of view)
As my '96 MGF is a car that always comments loudly on being unattended (preferably at MG meetings, and sitting in the garage at home annoying the neighbours) I simply use the key to close the car. This leaves the inner sensor un-triggered solving 90% of my alarm problems.
Does yours also blink while using the key for locking rather than using the fob?

Re: MGF alarm help please :)
The alarm system can be tested by following the procedure described below:
1. Ensure doors, bonnet and boot lid are closed.
2. Sit in the drivers seat and close the door.
NOTE: The next three actions must be carried out within 2 seconds.
3. Depress the driver’s door sill button.
4. Switch the ignition on, off and on again.
5. Raise the driver’s door sill button.
If the test mode has been entered correctly, the horns will give a short beep and the engine immobilisation buzzer will sound. Opening either door, the bonnet or the boot lid, or operating the driver’s door sill button, will cause the alarm LED to illuminate for approximately one second. If the LED does not illuminate, there is a system fault.
The volumetric sensor can also be tested while in test mode. To test the volumetric sensor, press the unlock button on the remote handset several times. The alarm LED will illuminate for approximately 1 second each time movement is detected in the vehicle.
The test mode is cancelled by switching the ignition OFF.

Door cill button = door lock pin on the door (the button on the door you push to lock it behind your right shoulder)

Don't know the answer to that one, but maybe our new moderator Steve Tyler could help.

Re: MGF alarm help please :)
It would probably be cheaper to get the alarm fixed; and I hope nobody goes posting easy ways to disable the F's alarm on here, even if such a drastic thing is possible!
You could remove one of the wires to each of the horns in the short term for a quiet night. The car remains securely locked and you hear no false alarms. HTH, Charles

Re: MGF alarm help please :)
You always have the option to disable your alarm/immobiliser using the EKA code and then use your key to lock the car. When I store my car during the winter I do this to avoid the battery running flat. You will find the instruction in the owner's manual.
