Hood tension cable needed- DJQ100080

Post by stuart » Mon Apr 01, 2013 9:12 am

Help!

I need a new hood tension cable- part no: DJQ100080- apparently no stock at all in the UK. If anyone's got a spare I can buy or if you can point me in the right direction it'd be a huge help.

Thanks in advance!
Stuart

Have you tried BAS International as they made/make the hood.

Well, BAS came back to me and they don't sell 'em....so if anyones got a knackered ripped up hood kicking about I'd be a willing buyer of a second hand cable. My missus is going nuts as I've got a half finished hood on a frame in the corner of the lounge awaiting this blummin' cable!

For domestic peace, if anyone can help I'd be hugely appreciative (and finally well and truly out of the doghouse!)

Hi Gary

I ordered and paid for the cable from Southlakes Minis 2 weeks ago- they were showing stock so I was thinking all is well and happy days etc- last week they refunded the money and e-mailed to say sorry but no stock! Grrrrrr!!!

If you could have a look for me at the breakers, that'd be great- only trouble is though it'd require destroying the hood to get the cable out- unpicking the fabric from one of the front corners, removing a 7mm nut that holds the seal in place to expose the hook that the eyelet of the cable sits in. My gut feel is that the hood would have to be trash to allow removal- but if you could ask for me that's be great!!!

Cheers Gary

There's a 7mm nut at the other end of the cable too. From there it threads through a fold of fabric on the underside of the hood right along the underside of the roof where the canvas part meets the seals above the door window....there you go, clear as mud!!

Much appreciated and very kind of you to have a look for me!! Cash waiting!!

Looking at these wires, perhaps the Yacht Riggers at the local boatyard would be a good place to get replacements made in Stainless Steel.

Hi,
I am new to this forum and ownership of an MG TF. I realise that this post about replacing the hood tensioning cable is old but hopefully someone is still looking at it.
I actually have a pair of cables on an old hood frame that I intended transferring to a new frame but I am not sure that they can be removed without cutting and thus destroying. I see postings in the thread suggesting going to a breakers yard to find them so I am wondering if it is possible to remove them intact. Any advice would be appreciated.
Malcolm

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think you can remove the cables complete but you have to destroy the fabric to do so.

Hi Malcolm.
They can be removed as i got the one that Stuart fitted in a previous post, but it was so long ago i can not for the life of me remember how.
If you have any problems with the old cables i have read that someone made them up out of bicycle brake/gear cable.
I have a spare original cable and if it would be any help i can go to my local cycle store and get a pair made up for you.

Thanks for getting back and for the offer. I am in Spain so not exactly local. The problem is that the end with the loop wont pull through the channelling because it is too big and the other end has a ferrule with a lip on it that stops it pulling through the other way. Thinking about it it must be possible to pull it through to fit it the first time unless the loop is made up after it is threaded through which I doubt. I am going to try filing of the ferrule lip. I think I must be missing something!!
