K&N 57-0238 Performance Air Intake System

I have one of these fitted to my MGF and I think the increase in performance and the sound is amazing for the amount it costs!

I haven't...this is just a spare.

As I said I have the exactly same induction kit fitted to my F and I love it. I honestly don't think you can go wrong for the money!

I do also have a Tipan kit but haven't fitted it yet but will at some point to compare with the K&N...

Yeah it's definitely a good price, I've been thinking about an enclosed set up but am trying to do something with the 160 airbox and a panel filter DIY but it's not been as straightforward as I envisioned so I'll have a think about a K&N for the meantime

You could try the K&N to see what you think, and can always sell it on if needed...

I'll think about it...I've heard £70 is going to be near the price of Mr Saturs new hydragas solution though so I think I'm more likely to wait for that before seriously considering further performance mods

OK no worries...

It might be £70 but that sounds remarkable cheap compared to other MS products, also you'll have to pay for somewhere to re-gass the nitrogen and then pay someone else to refill the hydroelastic fluid if you don't have your own pump...

Well the current blurb says he expects to bring the whole cost down to £100 for all four spheres so I'm guessing around £70 for the valves - also with stuff like the bellcrank assembly being only £30ish I'm sure the valves won't be extortionate, and besides I spoke to Mike about it all yesterday and it all sounds very promising

I currently have a fluid pump, and when returned to its owner can easily be borrowed again if needed, and I'm sure I can find somewhere local to deal with the Nitrogen, either way it's cheaper than the £350-500 it costs currently

True should be a lot less than the £350 I paid to get mine down...

I assume the spheres need to be removed in order to fit the valves. You are able to remove and fit the spheres yourself which is far from easy? Otherwise you'll be looking at around £150 labour which is what is was quoted...

I think the whole point is they should be able to fitted in situ without removal of the units

From what I've heard it's a case of a pilot hole then a 13mm hole for the valve and then regas and job is a good one

However it's not been tested yet and Mike is awaiting the first batch to test - hopefully it'll be as straightforward as it sounds but it's for an MGF so we will have to wait and see, things are rarely simple

Having removed the spheres myself I'd be surprised if they can be fitted in situ, particularly the rears...there is very little space around the spheres!

I wouldn't know where the hole needs to be drilled myself so I'm not entirely sure, I'll be removing one of mine to do the front knuckle in any case so I'll get a practice in but as you say the rears are much more difficult...I'll certainly have a go if needs be, it can only be as bad as the gear cable I'd imagine

All being said the website quotes £100 total for the job in the description and states no need to remove so I'm very hopeful :D

Good luck it's tricky but the fronts are much easier.

One thing I really wish I'd done while I had the spheres out is fitted lowering knuckles, as when the car is set the correct ride height it looks a bit silly...but it does ride and handle great!
