Blue TF 2005 No MOT but nice bits and pieces!

Post by transforce » Thu Nov 30, 2017 10:55 pm

I've been offered this at a knock down price. I test drove it the other day and it was lovely (despite a fault which meant the engine kept cutting out!
The dealer said he would look into it as it was probably something simple, now he's reduced the price which obviously means it's not worth his time, or it's serious.

I literally went to see it as it was at the bottom of my road and left actually being quite impressed with it, yet not wanting to find the time to get it fixed up and MOT'ed.
I think the dealer saw my eyes light up at the interior (especially the seats).

I'm looking another car this weekend which I am almost certain to buy, however I have room on my driveway for a SORNed motor too.
Not sure why I'm posting this other than not wanting this car to go to waste as, though it has many negatives, it also still has a lot going for it.

If you see something you like that makes it worth me buying the car, then let me know. Or else you may want to buy it?

I believe this car has been used for racing. The exhaust was noisy, he said it had been modded (it sounded like it was blowing to me). The black plastic (tape) has been applied for racing reasons, I had a look and think it's easy enough to remove.

The cars reg is: YY53 OVK
VIN: SARRDLBPC4D621872

MOT expired 1st November 2017. I've seen the last MOT and there were no advisories. There seems to be an issue with the battery terminal leads. He said they kept disconnecting. Cat C. Cracked bumper. The dealer said this happened when parked at his property. Hmmmm. 100,000 miles.

I don't think I've missed anything. Send me a message if this interests you, or if you have any advice. If I were to buy it and sell it straight on, I was thinking maybe £600? A smidge more than I'll pay.

Thanks.

I am liking that but, give us a clue, what's the asking price.

Also, which model is it, I'm guessing it's a 135.....

It would be a shame to break a car for the sake of a new bumper.
It's MOT history suggests a car that has been reasonably looked after and the little touches such as the badges show an owner who was interested.

However as it stands without an MOT, even a failed one, it can only be classed as a "spares or repair, sold as seen" car.

It'll make someone a nice winter project.

Checking the notes I made when I viewed it, there is a crack across the front windscreen, it would have to be replaced. IF I get it and break it, I'll contact c13amb first about seats.

I was thinking about viewing it too but I’m in Southampton! The price I saw it on Autotrader though was £350. I’m tempted coz it’s a 160 but don’t know about the cutting out issue.

Just gone back to saved ad and it’s been put up to £900 because he’s found history file!!
If you look at MOT history online there’s some mileage discrepancies too. Ad says 98k, last MOT 1yr ago says 102k! Also it drops from 56k in 2012 to 43k in 2013. Something dodgy going on here.

Yes thats the same one. I'd be very dubious about paying £900 for it. The overall concern is that it is cutting out when idling. If that can be worked out, then actually it's a pretty nice car. Like I say I was impressed with it considering it was on for £550 when I went to see it.
The dealer was obviously frustrated by the potential cost of repairs. Also, anyone who does go to see it, I believe the suspension has been lowed and he has it parked down a back alley, the car will scrape every bump coming out.

On a side note I am looking at another car today which isn't an MG which I am probably going to buy. I feel like a traitor, but the TF Spark I went to see yesterday was NOT as described!!!!

In it's current state it is not worth much more than £300.

Cracked screen.
Cracked bumper.
No MOT.
Running fault the garage can't fix.
