Mike Satur manifold

Post by itsonlyme54 » Sun Jan 10, 2021 2:49 pm

Mike Satur exhaust manifold.

I removed this from a running car yesterday, all sound with no leaks. This has a nice tone to it, its not overly loud and for my ears just right, I am impressed with the build quality, its the first one I have seen, its heavy and feels substantial.

Mike Satur claims in excess of 10 bhp for this manifold, a very expensive item new but I imagine you would spend considerably more to get another 10 bhp going a different route.

The rear box, I have no idea who made this, its sound and between this and the manifold is a competition cat, both are in good condition although all of this could do with a clean up.

The price, I have no idea how to cost this and hope to get advice or agree an offer ?

Can I ask what model you removed this from? I have been considering a 4-2-1 manifold for my 04'TF. Will it fit with the other standard pipes etc..I do have a ttmk7 fitted at the mo .

The manifold will fit to all models of MGF and TF.

I bought one off eBay a little while ago for Project Shed - need to get around to fitting it!

Thanks for the info Rob can I ask just how big a job is it to fit and what is a respectable time for a competent mechanic to fit?

I'd be looking at the MG/Rover experts to get this fitted as they will know exactly how it goes on.

I removed this and its an easy fit, the bottom engine restraint needs to be released so that the engine can be tilted forward to allow the complete manifold to be pushed up into position from below, having a ramp is a definite plus though

Well I don't have a ramp...so I think it would have to be an expert from Rover/MG me thinks..any idea on a price for it as its going to cost a few hours labour on top ??

Is it the 421 manifold? How much are you asking for it?

Fitted one of the latter stainless steel 4-2-1 manifolds about two years ago. Very unlike usual Mike's quality we had to do some work on the bending as it was not quite a 100% straight fit, and ofcourse as being someone used to work with stainless steel in high quality environment we did a bit of polishing (in and outside) to get a better finish. But man o man once on the car it gives an extra umpffff! Be aware, it is not that difficult to fit but the aircon (Continentals have more than UK cars) is not making fitting an easy job.
MGFvvc - 90FVBG - charcoal - you might think it is original - (1996 nr:8204)
MGTF 120 - 57RNJ7 - BRG - every day is an MG day - (2005)
MGC CGT - SJ08DY - tartan red - 1985 restauration fairly original - (1968 nr: 4137)

Sorry to say that, but I am quite shocked about the appearance of this manifold. As new from Mike Satur these manifolds are premium items price-wise. And after some years it looks like that? Was it rapped with a heat shield strap or something?

I have a new MS Daytona sitting here for 2 years, not sure to fit which of my MGFs. Wanted to complete a whole set of MS Exhaust including sportcat and manifold.

But as i am in Germany the Brexit, Tax and Import charges are so high, that all of these ideas are gone. We discussed this in our MG Forum and it seems so the big time for British classics outside the UK is gone. At least for the more affordable, but price sensitive models like the MGF. Nobody really wants to spend such amounts of money for a MG. For luxurious brand type cars or old cars with value maybe.

But good news for you guys. Less people from outside of the country will compete for car parts. On the over side the market for people who create improved parts (like Mike Satur; MGMania; Hydragas-Refill-Supplier etc.) got smaller.
