Hello from Germany, Saxony
Hello
I am new at MGF Register Forums and want to introduce myself.
I am 31 years old and got a 99 Mk-1 MG-F MPI from my father at my 30. birthday. The car had about 130k kilometers (80k miles) on it.
After having a good season in 2014 I got the car in 2015 and something went wrong. The car had 12 years old winter tires on it and a friend and me took it for a drive. I was on the passenger seat and said to my friend he could burn the tires because I need to buy some new better summer tires for it. It worked well for 2 hours of fun but then we did an 120° turn at about 60 Mph into the german countryside....
Glad to be alive the damage was luckily not very hard and the car could be repaired. The most deformation was on the rear side sill.
Sadly my father refused to make a cheap smart repair approach on this. He wanted a metal rebuild at about 4x times the cost of a cheap repair. So some parts need to be exchanged on the car.
Well the repair shop was not very good at all, because the paint job was not very good and at some points they welded the new parts on older rusty parts I guess....
I got the car back in October 2015. So I started to personalise the car to my ideas:
- Mk2 Gauge (digital)
- MGTF beige (Light Tan "SBA") interior with walnut console
- Cooling Water alarm sensor
- white indicators front/side/rear (OEM MGTF Lights)
So here I am. I have many questions on further upgrades and items for my car. So I decided to register here to get more information about MGF parts and tweaks. I hope my English is not so bad and you can understand what I want to write.
Greetings from Germany

Re: Hello from Germany, Saxony
Thanks colintf.
To be honest I am no total MG-F or roadster fan. I didn´t decide to buy a MGF by myself. I receive it as a gift with the responsibility to keep it and look after it until it may get a classic (idea of my father). So I do my best to drag it in the direction of my ideas. I am more a Ford Guy and dream of a V8 Mustang or such stuff. My daily drive is a Mk1 Ford Focus.
But I am pleased that you guys like the car. There are plenty of things to do.

Hello and welcome.
If you get the MG bug, but still want a Mustang, get a ZT260. MG history with a Mustang engine

Nice idea. We will see.
ATM I am not allowed to sell the car. So I will continue to fiddle around a bit.

Yes. I know the mgboard.de. I am there some time. But most upgrade parts are from England. So I decided to ask my questions at the source.

Re: Hello from Germany, Saxony
Just to update the actual status:
Brooklands and TÜV (german MOT).
But still many things to do. Cambelt and waterpump have to be replaced. New transmission oil and braking fluid also. The clutch issnt working nicely and the suspension had to be filled with fluid and may be lowered by knuckles. There is rust in the driverside wheel arch/sill area and the box sections had to be flooded with Mike Sanders. And not to forget the car has the first simple head-gasket. So a HGF would come somedays.
And above all that the car still has room for many optical and some functional improvement.

Excellent work! The cars look beautiful.
It would be interesting to know how many Fs and TFs were produced in left hand drive?
Enjoy.

Re: Hello from Germany, Saxony
So, after 137Tkm / 85k miles the Mk1 got to his destiny:
4 Litres of coolant moved into the oil. Coolant level sensor safed the engine because I could react before the engine was overheating. No overheating, no exhaust clouds in white or blue, no visible leaks under the car. Although there was some engine oil loss in the last months.
We dont know if this was the first headgasket, but we assume it.
The sad thing is that my daily driver Ford Focus Mk1 collapsed 2 weeks ago with dead fuel pump. So no car left to go to work. (I dont drive the Trophy) Glad that since corona homeoffice is possible.
Greetings
