NOW SOLD - 17" MGF Trophy 160 Wheels + Tyres - Mike Satur Version x 4
Edited (14.06.20) Advertising again after main "lockdown"
JUST WANT THESE OUT THE WAY NOW as these are my last MGF bits that I have
£385 (ono)
Plus £20 packing and delivery if needed
UK Mainland only, plus IOW, not Highlands or NI sorry.
Now you don't see these very often anymore!
Give your MG a real stance.
4 x 17", yes 17" (not 16") MGF Trophy Wheels, as originally sold by Mike Satur but now no longer available.
These are a straight bolt on, no adjustments required assuming your suspension is not on the floor.
Hard to find 17" wheels for an MGF or TF that bolt on without any modification.
The wheels are perfectly usable but there is some kerbing and would benefit overall from a proper refurbishment at some point in time, especially as they are something to keep long term.
Come with four road worthy tyres with plenty of tread, been using myself and never imagined selling them, probably regret it one day.
Front, 2 x 205/40/ZR17
Rear, 2 x 215/40/R17

Unfortunately 17" are not a MG VOSA approved size .As a result people have reported that they are a MOT Failure or expensive as an Insurance Modification.

I am not going to search the 4370 comments on wheels over 219 pages on this Forum or ???pages on the old Forum however it has been discussed before.talkingcars wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 12:22 amIn over 30 years of being around modified cars I have never heard of this.
It might have been considered as a modification outside of the Certificate of Conformity. This is the Certificate that the manufacturer gives to DVLA to Register the car stating the Type Approval Number. It gives all the relavant requirements including wheel size. It gives the 15 in wheel size with an Addendum on mine to include the optional 16 in fitted.
You may remember the 2006 MG Sweden 16 in Alloy wheels which nearly all came to UK as they were aftermarket without the required EU approvals.
My cars only get OEM or TUV/VOSA Approved parts. Nothing comes from my local Chinese Copy Parts Supplier or cheap from the Bay of Evil.
Why ?? Retired for nearly 20 years after 40 years as a Profesional.

I did a search of this forum and of the internet and found nothing.....
I also checked MOT regulations and there is nothing on the subject of over size wheels
obviously I am using the wrong search terms so gis a clue or a link.

Re: FOR SALE - 4 x MGF Trophy 160 Wheels + Tyres - 17" Mike Satur Version
There are certain regulations regarding wheels and tyres that are part of an MoT inspection - the tyre being covered by the wheel arch for example - but the MoT does not specifically look at whether the wheel fitted is original fitment or not. The UK has a sizeable aftermarket manufacturing and retail market for wheels as a result.
Compliance with the certificate of conformity is very important in some markets - particularly the TUV in Germany, but also in other European countries. But in the UK, there is little enthusiasm to rigidly apply these standards to privately owned cars.
However, it is certainly true that fitting these wheels is a "modification" and this would need to be declared to your insurance company. That may increase your annual fee, prevent insurance being offered or make absolutely no difference whatsoever. It depends on who you are insured with.
Personally, I prefer the look of the OEM wheels: I've always really liked the Trophy 16" wheels (the best looking of the bunch in my opinion - manufactured by Technomagnesia), but they are also the heaviest, increasing un-sprung weight. I doubt the 17" version will be any lighter, but I do like the look of them... Also tyres for 17" rims are more expensive and getting the appropriate rolling circumference to maintain standard gearing and avoiding contact with the wheel arch lip can be a real challenge (if you are after particular performance brands). But Andrew has used them and I am sure will able to advise on tyre fitments.

No car will fail an mot on wheel or tyre size
As long as there is no fouling on the inner arches or wheel arches fact
As for insurance no company in my experience has ever refused insurance on any of my modified cars in over thirty years of owning modded cars

As an Mot tester I can confirm that Danny is correct with these wheels ...or any wheels, they will pass an mot as long as they dont foul or protrude the wheel arch.

That rings a bell, would need to double check though, do you recognise the tread then?
