Having had the head gsaket & 10 year service in January the car boke down after only about 1500 miles.
The problem looks to have been with the crankhaft pulley bolt working it's way loose. As a result the cambelt cme off and has trashed the cover.
Is this bolt failing a common feature at all, and should it have been replaced in a 10 year service (or head gasket repair) ?
Once the wheel was removed & cover it was found to be exactly like this, with the bolt having come out completely :-
Thanks
Alan

Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. Gasps of amazement
I wouldn't worry about the plastic bits, I'm more worried about what happened with the valve gear/pistons.
It must have made a hell of a din with the belt sawing through the plastic cover before bursting out - please tell me the engine cut out without catastrophic mechanical noises
These bolts have a high torque value, and I've never heard of one coming undone. It surely must be faulty workmanship, probably resulting in a new engine, as if mechanical damage has ensued, it might well be major.

Would aggree. They usually come off only after some suspect service works.
Obviously someone did not meet the asked for torque of 205 Nm.

Re: Crankshaft Pulley/Damper bolt
SAS Autos http://www.sasautosltd.co.uk/ said it's not covered after 11 months and only 1500 miles. They have seen it 2 or 3 times before and that something in the photo looks worn that has probably started the problem off. They then quoted £200 to £300 to fix !!!
1 broken car could be appearing on ebay soon....but only after the Daytona, Taipan, Roll hoops, bass box etc have been transferred over to the wifes TF.

Re: Crankshaft Pulley/Damper bolt
It fell off because they didn't tighten the bolt fully, end of.
Re: Crankshaft Pulley/Damper bolt
I would take one of a number of options. First would be to talk to the AA for an Engineers Report. Talk to Trading Standards who may have other Reports.
How stubborn are you. I would probably take the car to a recommended Specialist and pay them to fix it plus a summary of work and go to the Small Claims Court.
A local Specialist would be Techspeed at Eathorpe Leamington Spa. They are highly respected by a number of Register Members for their experience and reasonable Man-Hour rates. Ask Gaven for his experience with this sort of failure.
