Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Hi there, it is the Power steering warning lamp. Does the steering feel stiff?
Thats about all I know.

Sound like the power steering warning light. OK to drive with but needs attention before the MOT. I believe it can fail if the system not working correctly. Even though you do not have to have power steering, I believe if it does not work correctly it can fail the test.

The other lights on the dash
Left bottom to top
Catalyst over heat (Japan only) - red
Rear fog – amber
Battery charging – red
Low oil pressure – red

Centre bottom to top
Alarm
SRS – Airbag supplementary restraint system – red
High oil temperature – red – VVC only
Seat belt (if fitted) – red
Power steering - red

Right – bottom to top
ABS – antilock braking system (if fitted) – amber
Engine bay over heat – red
Hazards – red
Hand brake & brake system - red

The power steering is powered via an electric motor. MIght be worth checking the 40amp fuse under the front bonnet on the passenger side.

The light can come on if you over rev the car when it is stationary but if that occurs it should reset itself the next time you start the car.

Not sure what generator you think is faulty? I would check out the electric to the power steering first and ensure you have no blown fuses in the system http://www.apttony.co.uk/Circuits/EPAS.JPG

The componets for the power steering can be found at http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/6677.htm & I epect you can pick them up from a scrap yard if you find no other problems first else where.
