Sean & Claires TF too Blue shows up the general theme of this year's Basingstoke FoT - rain. It had been forecast and we weren't sure if it was going ahead but in the end it did and there was actually a pretty good turnout of cars, lorries, buses and military vehicles who braved the forecast elemental downpour.

Of the F/TF clan about half of the expected twenty turned up which was pleasing including Sean & Claire who had come all the way from Norfolk to sit in a wet field. To be fair this show is very good in the sunshine when you can relax and picnic and just take in the ambience. This year we still sat, but under the Gazebo and still with our brollies up as instead of deflecting the rain it diffused it sending a fine mist down upon us ! Really must put some waterproofer on it as it's getting on a bit now. We had one new face in the form of Mike Fidler who was inaugurated into the ways of the South East Fers - more a traditional baptism with water than one with fire .

There was still plenty of things to see around the two fields and some of the public did turn up to have a slosh around the vehicles which included a Mighty Antar, PT Cruiser club, Basingstoke Motor Club, the AA, Ford Pilots, Amercian cars, Imps, Minis, Triumph TR7s and many other club displays. Single vehicles were also out including a fantastic Aston martin Vantage which was only one of three produced as press and publicity cars and was originally given to the Beckhams to use. It was also used in the Casino Royale publicity shots with Daniel Craig as James Bond.

At least Neil had a novel way of keeping warm in the damp conditions - not entirely to be recommended mind you . The plan is to stick your umbrella in the air just as a thunderstorm passes overhead - brolly is then struck by lightning thus providing sufficient heat to keep you all tingly for some time afterwards. This is precisely the method employed by Mr Sutton who also adopted a somewhat pallid complexion in the process.

All in all it was still a good morning out even if we did get soaking wet and struck by lightning - I'm sure Mike will remember his first outing with us for some time to come !
