So where does the Reed Warbler like to spend Winter ? And just what is
Poisonous Miss Reid ? Just how much would Steptoe get for this ? and
exactly what does "Rest in Rio Food + wine " mean? Just a
small sample of some of the fiendishly cryptic clues to be found on this
years MG Car Club South East Spring Naviscat courtesy of yours truly.
Having had the honour of winning last year's event it was down to us to
set the 2006 Naviscat. After much clue hunting in the narrow lanes
surrounding Farnham and Alton we came up with 45 points for the
contestants to plot. Not that they were expected to get all of them of
course. The Motor Sports Association rules only allow a certain amount to
collect - in this case the first 30 points. As it turns out no one managed
to get anywhere near that amount anyway. With a good turn out of just
under thirty cars gathered at the Alice Holt Visitor Centre everyone was
soon wrestling with the OS maps and putting crosses somewhere near the
reference points. A reasonable turnout of SEFers included Adrian &
Dawn in Good As Gold, Dave & Michelle in Kiki, Sally and John,
Richard, Tony & Lynn and Barry & Sue. In fact Barry &
Sue did rather well coming first in Class C - well done. There was
also a good turn out of T types despite the threatening weather and
ominous grey clouds. Unfortunately they did turn to rain during the event
so that muddy feet and damp answer sheets became the order of the day. Most
made it back to the Rose & Crown at Upper Faringdon - some earlier
than others and one not at all ! Despite a busy Mother's Day crowd in the
pub they managed to knock together 60 odd meals in good time and even laid
on a marquee outside for us to do the prize presentation in. So who
were the winners ? Overall Winners - Peter & Susie Arnell in an MG
