A Swift Trip to Silverstone

OK I was a little too busy over the four days I was at Silverstone to actually get to see any of the racing but I'm reliably assured that there was a full and exciting programme on Saturday and Sunday and I really hope it went well for the F/TF entrants. I wasn't sure whether the Mclaren F1 car heard most of Friday  entered any of the races, though I somehow doubt it, although it's distinctive screech provided an evocative backdrop for most of the day. Friday in fact was a little light on visitors but this is not unusual as it is still a working day and Saturday more than made up for it with ranks of MGF/TFs stretching as far as the eye could see and far outnumbering the Bs for yet another year - those Bs are really going to have to try a lot harder to beat us these days ! The stall was non stop all day and for the first time the MGCC ran Arena displays all day. Which Register ran the Arena ? Well the F register of course and a long day it turned out to be for our fantastic marshals but an exciting one with Russ Swift providing the tyre squealing highlights ably assisted by our two foo.....I mean F and TF drivers - Stewart and Lee - who are being nominated for the next entry to RADA. It was great to see MGFs back in an  arena with Russ, even if he was driving Mini Coopers this time instead of those Fs back in 1996 and 1997 at Gaydon which some of you more mature F/TF enthusiasts will remember.

Elsewhere there was an impressive display of K3s in the main marquee celebrating their 75th anniversary  - It's unlikely we'll see so many together again in one place. Outside the MGA Twn Cams celebrating their golden jubilee were supported by dozens of  other As whilst the V8s covered Tellytubby Hill once again.. MMMs, SVWs, a handful of FWDs , early Zed cars were way outnumbered by the latter versions who covered the end of the straight. Sunday morning saw the full parade laps driven by some Fers with sore heads and throats from singing Welsh Karaoke half the night before ! I'm quite sure the rest of the campsite appreciated the serenading as they tried to sleep.

As you can see from the pics and video it was a full and exciting weekend and we hope to see you next year and I promise to get some racing pics next time !
