The weather forecast predicted heavy rain despite Saturday being a nice pleasant day. This prediction put off many MG folk from heading down to Winchester including several MGFers which resulted in a small turnout this year meeting at Wisley. 2006 saw 24 F/TFs at this event but this year we were scraping half that amount and that was due to God deciding we  needed to be watered.

Nonetheless five cars met at Wisley and I took the opportunity to present Adrian with his Pride of Ownership award from the MGCC South East Summer Gathering. These had been handed out at the Annual Awards Dinner the weekend before but Adrian couldn't make it. With the ceremonies over and the rain starting to spit a little we set off from Wisley and headed down the A3 for a semi scenic run. We'd decided to finish off our odyssey of the A272 with the third and final section from Petersfield to Winchester which in sunny conditions is a great windy road but beware of the speed cameras as Hants Police have found out that car and bike clubs like to use this road !  In fact we found one mobile camera on the approach to a village but luckily were doing under the speed limit as we were dodging huge puddles stretching across the road at the time. In fact those puddles often seemed like Lakes as we gingerly aquaplaned across them and all the time the rain came down washing more mud from the verges. It was a challenging trip and one that everyone seemed to enjoy because of the conditions so the message is don't be afraid of the rain as runs can still be fun when it's wet.

We turned up at Hursley Park and stopped in front of the mansion for the traditional photo shoot  before heading to the IBM social club in an attempt to dry off. With less people at the event this year it was quite comfortable inside and service was quick so it wasn't long before we were tucking in to gammon, egg and chips with a nice pint of Old Speckled Hen. We had already met up with South Coast Group and were listening out for the raffle announcements immediately after the indoor Morris Dancing had finished.

I don't know if it was because we were the predominant group or because we brought more tickets than everyone else but members of the MGF fraternity certainly seemed to clear up on the prizes with Dawn bagging no less than three !

Out in the car park there was still a reasonable section of MGS with several Bs and a gaggle of RV8s, the older cars were noticeable by their absence which is not too surprising given the conditions - a small number from other clubs were also here including a brace of green 2CVs.

Hopefully next year will be a gorgeous spring day and we can get some more F/TFs out of the woodwork to join us.
