The SEF 2006 Go Kart Challange took place at
the Streatham Indoor Kartway on the 5th February. An odd place for a track
as it takes up half of the Streatham bus garage with buses still going in
and out of the other half ! even stranger for Adrian who used to drive
buses into here.
We did manage to muster three MGFs between us as you can see in the
pictures but Streatham is probably not the best place to park your pride
and joy - we did manage to squeeze into the Track area so it wasn't too
bad. This years challenge was an individual racer event rather than the
endurance team challenge of 2005. This meant that each competitor had some
practice laps before taking part in five heats. Positions were then worked
out and three finals took place/ The Top seven automatically went into the
main final. The three winners of Final C went on to Final B. The Three
winners for Final B went into the Grand Final making ten Karts for the ten
lap race.
The event was also an MGF vs Rugby Boys competitions when we pitted ourselves
against the might of the Ealing and Staines Rugby Teams. With much younger
and fitter competition it would be interesting to see which team would
come out on top .
Each Heat and final were hotly contested with the marshalls frantically
waving warning flags as some Karters thought they were on the Play Station
! I only saw one Kart get black flagged and sent into the pits though.
Mostly it was good natured competition with lots of talk in the pits as to
bad luck skidding into bends and being hit from behind making people lose
their races - all in good spirit of course.
The time sped by and before long the grand final was over having been
hotly contested. Adrian went into the final in pole position and made sure
that he kept it that way right through the race despite his claims that
"I've never done it before ....honest ". David droppped from 2nd
to 9th unfortunately whilst Michael, Tim and Jay kept up one place each
from their grid positions.
So to the winners podium - in third place a Rugby Boy - Jay C : In
Second place an honorary Effer - Michael Noto ; and in first
place a real Effer in the form of Adrian "I've never done it
before" Clifford !. Well done all. A little mention for fourth
place as well ....as it was me ! A special mention for David as he came
out with the fastest lap of the day.
