MGFest - the car event with a difference !
Fest NIGHT !!!
Saturday night was party night at MGFest08 and took place right on top of the museum in the Kestrel Suite complete with an MG bar featuring our special MGFestive-Ale and an MG Curry (or pie & Chips !). We started the night with the raw sounds of MG fanatic Neil Willett's Engine Room of the Apocalypse to get us off to a rousing start. This was followed by a short break for the curry and then our Special Guests the John Verity Band were introduced to a stupendous welcome by the crowd. Following our Glow Car Parade our finale featured Krisis playing a fantastic array of modern hits to the dancing crowd.

Engine Room of the Apocalypse Back to open this year's gig were EROTA led by certified MGF Nut Neil Willets. They rocked out with their metal stylings as the rest of us enjoyed our curry and some practised their poses on blow up guitars ! This year there was no noise limiter and EROTA took full advantage of that as Neil introduced us to the "Black axe of the Apocalypse" complete with "Borg Implant", which was used to best effect on their infamous "Bomber in the style of ELP". Neil was right when he said "Bring air guitars, vomit bags, hi-vis jackets, hard hats, crutches, morning after pills..." To find out more check out.... |
John Verity Band The John Verity Band appeared as our very special guests at this year's MGFest. John has a long history as a professional musician stretching back to the 1960's and has supported many acts including Jimi Hendrix, Canned Heat and Janis Joplin in the US. He has also been a member of established bands such as Argent and The Zombies when not producing New Wave of British Heavy Metal acts such as Saxon. John has also recorded sessions for a wide variety of acts from Motorhead to Ringo Starr, Colin Blunstone to Bow Wow Wow. He also formed his own Progressive outfit, Phoenix, in the 70's and has recorded many albums under this name and as the John Verity Band. He recently joined Jools Holland on the Sex, Jazz and Rock n Roll tour and continues to tour extensively under his own name with the John Verity Band. The JVB's latest album "Say Why ?" was released in 2007 and the band played several blues orientated numbers from that record as well as some fantastic covers of songs touching John's career including a storming rendition of "Purple Haze" complete with guitar playing by teeth and a fantastic finale of the Argent Classic "Hold Your Head Up" More about John and the chance to buy his records at... Oh and one more thing ....... .... he's an MGF Register member as well owning an MGTF !!!

KRISIS Krisis were back by popular demand after a great performance at MGFest07 with their blend of modern and classic pop which made sure the evening finished with a swing. They played a wide selection of modern pop from the Beatles to the Zutons via The Killers and U2 as well as some classic soul , rock and punk with the latest chart hits thrown in for good measure. They were certain to get the crowd on their feet and they succeeded once again , the air guitars even came out again with guitarist Chris joining in on the five "guitar" line up , except his was a real one. With a great lightshow and the band throwing themselves in to the spirit of the weekend, both camping on site and providing all the PA equipment for all the bands, Krisis summed up the essence of MGFest - Frantic Fun !
