Re: Easier MFG oil changes!

Great solution - I have a funnel with a length of clear flexible hose attached for this and similar tricky oil filling jobs...

Re: Low Mileage Car

I guess it depends on how much rust is evident on the bores but it must be worth trying to clean them up with a bit of wet and dry paper to see if they are pitted? There will be very little wear at that mileage and even if a bit pitted you could try adding "additives" to combat that possibility. I h...

Re: changing oil rail without breaking hg seal

I thought the head bolts screwed into the oil rail?

Re: ABS working?

If you managed to lock a wheel and felt nothing from the ABS then I would agree that it is not working properly. I would try it again on a greasy / loose surface to confirm your suspicions. It is usually very evident when the the abs kicks in.

Re: Demorolised Smoker

I believe that if the liners were level then the elastomer (not MLS) gasket is advised. Which did you fit?
Unfortunately I think you will need to take the head off again and see what the problem is. Such a pain.......

Oh dear... were the liner heights ok?
Commiserations.... I know what a pain it is to fix something and get it wrong.

Re: head gasket

Do not even think about doing it yourself! I decided to give it a go a few weeks ago and it was a nightmare of a job! Get the mobile mechanics around and you will be delighted. It is not particularly technical but the first time you do it is a BIG learning curve. I would happily do another - now I h...

Re: Rear Light Problems

I had a similar problem and it was caused by bulbs which were the wrong type... I think it was the "wattage" that was incorrect on one side.

Re: Choosing the correct Head Gasket

Head is now skimmed and all the gaskets have arrived... I have bought the FAI gasket set that look to be good quality and is there is a lot more to it than the old one! I have new head bolts, new water pump, new thermostat and a new cambelt with tensioner. Any advice before I start to put it all bac...

Re: Choosing the correct Head Gasket

Will do Rob, Ta. I am fairly sure the head has been done before due to the evidence of gasket cement on the inlet manifold and other places. Hard to be sure though. I have ordered a full MLS head gasket set (FAI) plus new water pump, thermostat, head bolts, timing belt, tensioner but will not go the...

Re: Choosing the correct Head Gasket

Thanks for the info Rob, the gasket failed (on inspection) at an oilway seal - a little bit of the elastomer has parted from the steel and was allowing oil into the coolant. The engine ran fine but with a steamy exhaust and oil in the coolant. Here a few pics of what I found... photo 2.jpg and more ...

Re: Choosing the correct Head Gasket

Hi all, just been to a local engineering/ engine reconditioning workshop to have the head checked. I spoke to them at some length and they were aware of all the issues regarding K series HGF. They were actually working on one at the time! They confirmed that the head should have a very light skim an...

Re: Choosing the correct Head Gasket

Hi, If I could fit the MLS gasket then I think the new oil rail is essential but as my liners are a bit low I believe the standard steel elastomer gasket is preferred. In that case I do not believe the uprated oil rail is required - (just what I have read). I am leaning towards the steel elastomer g...

Choosing the correct Head Gasket

MGTF 2002 1.8 non VVT Hi all, I am new to TF ownership (as of last week) and new to this site. I have commenced my TF ownership with head gasket failure  I have read a huge amount on the subject but I am still a little confused regarding my choice of correct / best head gasket to effect the rep...
