Re: New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

Quick update The fish tailing is much reduced and I can confidently take it up above 80 and further, the cornering grip is incredible, however the car seems much more susceptible to side winds when travelling at relatively slow speeds. Reasons for the improvement ????? I have worked the tyres hard t...

Re: New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

Have any of you tried talking to Toyo/your tyre supplier about a refund under the Sale of Goods Act etc? By the sound of it the tyres might not be fit for the purpose they're sold for - if this handling imbalance is beyond anything normally seen with mismatched tyres. In some of the earlier respons...

Re: New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

I realise different wheel size and car, but same issue with my TF in March, Barney.. car handled very well until the minute the rears were changed for Toyo's .. from then on its been quite scary.. may change my fronts to toyos and just live with that until all four have worn out.. looking forward t...

Easy to fix
I have little doubt it will probably boil down to that, but wouldn't it be good to establish a categorical reason as to why ?

Re: New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

You mention an advisory for the rears. Did you renew all four tyres or just the rears? If the latter, what are you running on the front? The fronts are Hankook Ventus Primes that have done about 2k miles, they worked well with the rear Dunlop Sports that preceded the Proxes. I concede that the prob...

Re: Stainless Manifold/Downpipe

Is this likely to give me any performance gain over the standard item... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/150645232994 I fitted this very downpipe in November, I went the whole hog and replaced the entire exhaust. It went on fairly easy, I would advise writing of your existing oxygen sensor in the old ma...

Re: New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

IT is a wheel bearing which is to blame The car went through its MOT 2 days before the tyres got fitted, it handled fine before the MOT and it handled just the same after the MOT. I have had to do the wheel bearings in the past so I know what to look for. To put it in to context, the bearings, ball ...

New Proxes ! now wearing a nappy when driving

I know this has probably been done to death as I have read many of the posts from a couple of years back when Toyo started shipping from Malaysia, but I thought I would ask the MGF community for there thoughts. My F is a Mk1 99 model with 15" rims running 205 - 50 - 15 on the rear. Last years and th...

Re: Fast idle

There is a reset process that you can go through to restore the idle setting, although I can't exactly remember the the routine I have used it after I replaced the throttle body and it works. Google MGF throttle / idle reset process.

Alternator belt tensioner

I am about get under the F to replace the exhaust with a stainless set up from manifold to bumper (except for the cat ) while at it I would like to replace the current alternator belt tensioner with the Rose joint set up. However the prices I have seen on eBay are around £25-27, which seems expensiv...

Re: The other forum

A site or forum is really just a meeting place for people to share ideas and help out by sharing their knowledge and experience, hopefully that also reflects this site. For a long time the other forum was really buzzy and populated by a broad based range of enthusiasts who liked a bit of good nature...

The other forum

Hi all

Reluctantly I have given up on the MG-Rover.org forum. The utterly tiresome password and sign in has completely drained my persistence. So moving to here full time to be with like minded and helpful people. Shame about the other site it was once good fun, but no longer :-(

Re: Shock Absorbers

I replaced all of the shocks on my F about a year ago. Following advise, I put on Europarts own brand on and a year later no complaints. However shocks and fitting them came up in conversation today, as my mates SAAB failed on one. What I remember of fitting mine was that when tightening the top nut...
