Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

Thanks for the offer (and apologies for the delay in replying, I typed a reply but can't have hit "submit"), but the MOT has expired. It's going in for the next MOT on Monday, I've just removed the breather pipe between the cam cover and inlet manifold, and put a filter on the engine side and blanke...

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

Thanks for all the replies. I've got it running again, I didn't plug the lower connector into the relay pack properly, but couldn't see it until I started taking it apart again! It currently seems to run better, and doesn't smell as rich as it did before. But I don't think my nose should really be u...

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

I don't have the code, but I now think that's not the issue. I can no longer talk to the ECU with my laptop. I think I will need to recheck all of the connections.

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

I found some instructions on the net about how to reset the alarm: 1. Manually lock the door with the button 2. Ignition ON-OFF-ON 3. Manually unlock the door with the button 4. Horn will sound and the security system will cycle through it's stuff! All works OK, until I get to 4 - the horn sounds bu...

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

I found that one of the large brown wires to the starter motor solenoid had broken off, though the car ran without it! But maybe this is a feed to a circuit that includes the Lambda sensor? It was too short, so i guess it had broken previously. I've added a new length in and the loom now sits where ...

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

Thanks, I've already changed the Lambda for a Lucas, though maybe I should have gone for a Bosch! The old one was quite easy to remove from the manifold once I'd got the manifold off!!! And then I had to re-make or fix the brackets for the exhaust heat shield! And when I went to refit the manifold I...

Re: Another MOT failure on emissions

Yes, of course, it is the brown one, the air temp sensor is green!! And it was a genuine one that I fitted. It ticks over quite happily at 850 rpm, and I opened the bleed valves and all appeared to be OK. I also loosened the hose clips around the sensor housing and there was water there. I'm using t...

Another MOT failure on emissions

Hi All, I've just had my F fail it's MOT retest on high emissions. The initial failure pointed out that the CAT was missing! So fitted a new one (genuine), and also fitted a new Lambda sensor, green water temperature sensor, cleaned the air temperature sensor in the inlet manifold, and fitted a new ...

Today is the 25th anniversary of it's registration!

What you can't see in the picture is that I'm painting the o/s rear wing and replacing the cambelt!

Hello!

Hi, I've just bought an MG F, chassis no.000354, which I think makes it the 103rd off the production line! It looks like a previous owner has done a lot of digging into it's history, it looks to have been owned by Rover for the first 11 months, but for what purpose I don't know. Looking around it I'...
