Re: Clutch Problems
Sorted this using the pressure method described in a previous post (should have checked first). The way I did it was to by a scrap m/c for the lid. Drill an 8mm hole in the lid and used my airline blower with a taper nozzle, set to 20psi, then inserted tightly in the hole. With Mrs B on the m/c with...

Re: Clutch Problems
Jumping in here, as just done the seal on the slave too, as the missus was complaining that it was hard to get into gear and a little investigation led to the slave which was seeping. But having done it tonight and bled 250ml of fluid and a lot of air out, there is no (and I mean none!) pedal pressu...

Re: 1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
Just been looking at the heat shield and wondering if its OK to remove it, show off the silencer. Other than the boot heating up whats the down side?
Alternatively, can it be cut down?
Chris.

Re: 1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
Don't worry, as it finally gave way tonight with a cracker bar and extension and lots of grunting! So the existing boss can be welded back in this cat. All that remains now is to see if the lambda on existing cat will come out or whether I'm in for a new sensor???

Re: small hole in sill
Did mine last year and you will find the small hole is much bigger when you grind away the paint. The cause is most likely a blocked drain hole in the sill at the rear -poke a nail/small screwdriver up the gap in the lower seam just forward of the wheelarch. Not aware of any repair parts available y...

Re: 1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
OK, so the lambda sensor is 'welded' into the boss on the cat ((no surprise there!) and eventually took the boss out of the cat tail pipe
As I'm doing this on the cheap, I reckon I can weld in a new boss or equivilent nut - but does anyone know the thread?
Chris.

Re: Unleaded or super unleaded?
Just adding to this thread... Would a tank of super unleaded help the emissions? T&S always struggles with emissions at the MOT, even after I have taken her for an Italian tune up. I suspect this because Mrs B (the regular driver) is a more 'considerate' driver and generally drives at lower speeds/s...

Re: 1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
So I 'seized the day' and bought the scruffy looking exhaust & cat on Fleabay & picked it up today for 35 notes. Imagine my surprise when I got it home and cleaned off the film of dirt....

Re: 1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
T&S had her annual trip to the MOT (and passed, with a couple of advisories -so that was a result!) but she always struggles with emissions, even after obligatory 'italian tune up' on the way in. Today was no exception! But while she was up on the ramp, I had a look around underneath to see if there...

1.6 cat - any difference from the 1.8 unit?
Hi,
Is there any difference between the catalytic convertors on the 1.6 & 1.8?
And is the cat on a VVC any different?
Chris.

Re: Strange behaviour of wipers...
Thanks both,
I guess with all the rain recently, it stands a good chance, although i sprayed it liberally with WD40 when installed.

Strange behaviour of wipers...
Fitted a new (used) wiper motor back in the summer, as only intermittent & first speed worked. Originally I thought it was the column switch unit but after changing that it made no difference and on inspection of the old motor, it clearly had suffered from water ingress. All was fine when I tested i...

The Mike Satur kit sounds interesting!
Within my meagre budget too!
I'll check it out.
Thanks Peter.

Better braking with 16" square 6 spoke wheels
Reading Diesel Destroyers thread 'Why is...' has got me thinking (never a good thing!). I want to keep the F as stock as possible even though I've make some cosmetic changes, which I think enhances it - but I appreciate that is subjective. One thing I don't want change are the 6 spoke wheels but wan...

Re: 2 similar VVC's
Yes that's normal, Y reg/51 plate cars switched to mems 3, tf exhaust fittment and no vvc on the inlet plenum (much like the tf160 but without the performance increase) Interestingly our 2001 VVC is mems3 & has VVC on the plenum! I guess MGR used them until they ran out. It probably saved them 50p ...

Hi Nick.
The wipers park fine in the mode that works.
Rob,
I cleaned all the multi plugs in the column with connector cleaner prior to re-assembly. Apart from the motor multiplug, where do you suggest I try next.

Hi Rob,
Based on my 'post instruction' improvement at Donnington, I'd have to say Joe Crook!
Great day and good to see you and the Shed there.

Wiper electrics issue
Hi. The wipers aren't working on flick wipe and full speed settings (and haven't been for a while :o ), although during the dry summer spell they did work intermittently. I was advised that the problem was most likely the column control unit, so purchased a second hand one and fitted it this weekend...
