Re: Coolant loss
It is no use feeling the carpet to see if it is wet below the heater control valve as the carpet does a great job of hiding the soaking underfelt material beneath the carpet. Lift the carpet, if the underfelt is wet you'll know straight away. If this is the problem, replace the heater control valve,...

Re: Where is my coolant going?
Hi Andy, its been a little while since you discovered the leaky heater valve/wet carpet and underfelt; have you managed to source a replacement and get your car back on the road?

Re: Where is my coolant going?
Hi Andy, amazing what info you can pick up on here! I bought a water valve, I think from MGOC HQ Spares (just down the road from here) and set about trying to replace the faulty item, in the end I gave up and handed car + new valve to my local MG specialist - Twin Motor Company - and he had the car ...

Re: Where is my coolant going?
If it is an MG F, the carpet I think is in two pieces with the join under the centre console and relatively easy to remove. Late TFs have 1 x piece quality carpet which is far better but the console needs to come out for it to be fitted correctly, although there is no allowance in the moulding for t...

Re: Where is my coolant going?
Hi Andy, I had similar trouble with my 2001 F, I searched everywhere and it turned out to be the heater water control valve on the dash. I did have one clue which I found eventually in that the carpet, particularly the underfelt was wet. The carpet does a good job of hiding the wet underfelt. You'll...

Re: Squeaking suspension
Seems ages since I posted about my car's Suplex kit..the dampers as originally supplied by Suplex were faulty making the car bounce so badly that friends of mine called it my 'bouncy castle' I had email conversations with Roger Parker who confirmed the car was wrong and I spoke to Dan White at Suple...

Re: Suplex Suspension
Hi All, have now got my F back from the workshop, complete with newly fitted Suplex suspension, make no mistake it is very good indeed. The suspension can occasionally get caught out on our subsiding fen roads, but apart from that it is excellent. I think the positives outweigh the negatives except ...

Re: Newby from Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hi everyone, thank you for taking the time to respond to my initial post and also for the warm welcome. My car is still in the workshop in Sutton having a few more bits and pieces done, but I have test driven my car with the Suplex suspension and I must report first impressions are very good. It is ...

Re: Newby from Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hi Jonathan, thanks for the welcome and we are closer than you might think......moved from Sutton to Mepal(!) Can't wait to get the car back. I previously owned an MG F Trophy, MGB GT, Midget and a ZT. Also been scalded by an XJS. Ouch. Concentrating on the MG F now. You can probably guess where the...

Newby from Ely, Cambridgeshire
Hi All, glad to be a member of the MG Car Club and this forum along with my MG F. It is at present having Suplex Suspension fitted as one of the rear hydragas units was leaking. It is also having new underfloor coolant pipes, service, MoT, washed underneath and waxoyled!! Regards to everyone.
