Re: 15” multi-piston brake calipers??
Thanks Rob, I’ll refurbish what I have to start with. Stupidly for hillclimbing I do’t need “race pads” that need warming up, just something that will work stone cold twice in a run of 50sec.With my cars in the past I ran ‘street’ pads for hillclimbs & ‘race’ pads at circuits as they lasted a bit lo...

Door mirror covers
Can the external door mirror covers (the painted bit) be removed from the remainder of the mirror.
I have a spare set of mirrors with bodgy paint, but don’t want to risk the remainder of the mirror trying to clean it up. Can they come apart - or were they clicked together in the factory forever?

Re: 15” multi-piston brake calipers??
Hi Rob, I’m conditioned to pay A$1 - 55p for parts, such that I automatically double the price! I was interested whether anyone had found a cheap option. I have noticed Toyota Hilux utes have 4 piston calipers (don’t know why) so that may be a fall-back for the AP ones. Personally for hillclimbs the...

Re: MGF Steering Rack adjustment/slop
Quick update and closure. I replaced the steering rack and all the ‘slop’ issues have gone. 8-) Whilst the car was up in the air, I carefully went around every corner & discovered the RR hub bearing/flange had failed, providing the ‘interesting’ handling I was suffering. After acquiring a drive flan...

15” multi-piston brake calipers??
I’m currently planning the build of my competition MGF, I’m looking at the various components I need for the job. One area is the brakes. As I’ve (seemingly) cornered the market on 15” VVC rims & have MGF Mania 280mm rotors for the car, I’m after some improved stoppers that fit what I have. Does any...

Re: Intermittent starting
I know they’re hard to get to but, what do the spark plus look like? The firing end should be light brown/grey if the plugs are happy. Black gungy plugs may be an issue.
I had starting issues & replaced the plugs (over 5 years old) problem solved. Gapping will only work for so long.

Re: front suspension upper link bolt
I don’t know how Mike Satur’s suspension is done. In the RV8 one, I just had to undo the sway bar & use a crow bar to get enough space to get the springs into place.

Thanks Rob. I’ll check the spare MGF I have & potentially swap racks between them.

MGF Steering Rack adjustment/slop
Can the steering rack in an MGF be adjusted to remove slack movement (slop)? I was checking the car the other day and when pushing/pulling at 9 & 3 o'clock, both sides had about 3-5mm movement of the steering arms into the rack. It definitely wasn't the hubs as there was no other movement. Can the M...

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
As the instrument surround in the Green Machine is broke (& held in with race tape) I thought I’d take the “good” surround out of Smurfette. It did have a couple of repaired cracks, but the bottom screw points were fine! Unfortunately, a previous owner had used super glue on the screw, so trying to ...

Re: MGF Trophy 160 Coolant Leak
Double check & test aftermarket SS engine coolant pipes before getting too far into the installation. I bought a set about 3 years ago now and: 1. they were full of welding pinholes, which I had to get welded up. The welding was of fairly poor quality too with spatter everywhere; and 2. the thermost...

Re: Removing brake light surround
Hi NIgelandjo I’ve taken mine out before. The black surround is held in place by the LED brake light. From memory, there was a ‘pin/plug’ in the centre that aligned with a hole in the boot assembly. I don’t recall any screws and it’s more or less jammed in there. Try spraying it with some INOX/WD40 ...

Re: "Modern" MGF tyre recommendations
Thanks for your replies Mike & Steve. Unfortunately, neither of those tyres are available here (the ZE914 had bad reviews), so I’ve plumped for some Yokohama’s, which will hopefully act similar to my track tyres.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I needed to drop Smurfette's alternator to a friend, so it was "essential travel" in the Green Machine. I managed to turn a 40Km drive into a 160Km blast through the mountains. Perfect autumn day on Mt Tamborine!

"Modern" MGF tyre recommendations
The green machine needs new tyres. I've run Toyo T1Rs for many years now, but they are no longer available in Australia. As tyres have evolved greatly since the F & TF were released, what are you running or recommend on your cars now?

WANTED - Non A/C alternator mount
Does anyone have a non a/c alternator mount for an MGF (p/n YLU101410) as I’m building a race car. I can swap an A/C alternator mount (& a/c pump if needed) for it. Postage may be an issue as i’m In Australia.

Re: what have you done on your mgf today?
I’ve taken my green MGF for a spin as the weather was nice and it was actually CLEAN for a change. I went for a drive over Mt Tamborine and then through the cane fields to Jacobs Well for coffee (as you do). I then pressure cleaned the engine bay of my (non-op) blue MGF. 762EFAF7-D645-40E8-9A45-86FC...

Re: If you could only carry (5) tools, what would they be?
Rob, I have the tool kit above & small air compressor which permanently lives in the spare wheel, along with the oil (which lives elastic strapped to the ABS lines) and coolant (in the space between the headlamp & battery) 2 x 600ml bottled waters between the R headlamp & the ABS housing, leaving pl...
