Re: MGTF LE500 laquer problem
Just over two years ago, I promised to "report back in a week". Ha! So the LE500 disappeared into the system for a respray, as mentioned, and never returned, and never returned and never returned and our departure date from the UK was looming. And the car never returned ... I was walking up the airb...

Re: LE500 rusting away
Are you saying the front bumper needs to come off to inspect? I haven't seen anything that bad on mine and mine is driven year round on gritted roads in Winter. The ECU cover plate in the engine bay is showing some slight surface rusting on mine, though, but I have heard of another LE500 with some ...

Nope! In a container with the YA. The radiators appeared fine looking down from above.

LE500 rusting away
Hi Guys, Appreciate any thoughts / suggestions on this. When installing some DRL behind the bumper I came across this mess. (Photo " TF mess") TF Mess.jpg I removed the piece - any idea what it is for? Appears to provide protection(?) for the bonnet release. Since it only had a limited life span and...

Re: Broke the Govt computer
Thanks Keith, the 'German' website had all the necessary info and seemed to keep the local tester happy. Hopefully it will be sufficient for the authorities at the licencing authority.
Rich, tried that as well.

Broke the Govt computer
When the NZ AA testers tried to register my LE500 on the Government system they upset it good and proper. Poor old NZ database could not translate a current MG VIN and so it spat the dummy. I have to be able to decode the meaning of every character in the VIN before I can get a NZ plate! Anyone know...

Farewell UK
Adieu to all the UK F'ers and TF'ers we have met in the time we have owned the LE500. After one last glorious UK summer of top-down motoring (NOT!) we are packing our bags. Provided the car returns from the warranty re-spray on time, it will join the YA in a container for the trip to NZ. Probably wi...

Re: MGTF LE500 laquer problem
Indeed, our "short" [11 year] trip to the UK comes to an end when we fly out of Heathrow on 17 July. It is time to retire to Aotearoa, the Land of the Long White Cloud, or as some have suggested; "The Land of the Wrong White Crowd". Going to miss the MGers (Fs & Ys) but there will be new MGers to me...

Re: MGTF LE500 laquer problem
This thread has been dormant for nearly a year, so I thought it was time to revive it. LE500 #98 goes to Longbridge on Tuesday for a warranty re-spray. Started the process just before the warranty expired last October as significant areas of paint began disappearing. Back in a week they say; I shall...

Re: TF Tyres
Just collected the LE newly shod with GSD2 tyres all round. The curious thing is that the DOT date code on the new front pair is 1111, i.e. manufactured in the 11th week of 2011, which is pretty good for a tyre that "is no longer made" according to the Enjoying MG article. The truth is out there - s...

Re: TF Tyres
I found a supplier online (Tyretraders http://www.tyretraders.com ) who assured me they had GSD2 in stock so have purchased a pair and SMC have agreed to fit and refund the cost of the GSD3 tyres, so that is a good outcome. Let's hope they really are GSD2 when delivered. SMC seemed surprised when I ...

Re: TF Tyres
In mid April I had new tyres fitted to the front of the LE500 by SMC, while it was in for the safety recall. Today's mail brought May 2011 Enjoying MG which has an article about TF tyres and says specifically that Goodyear F1 GSD3 are NOT approved. Guess what the MG agents SMC have just fitted to th...

Re: Continental Touring
Why use toll-roads at all? They are boring and straight. The curves, the fun, the views, the villages are all on the empty "back" roads. Only motorways worth using are the German ones to see what the LE500 can really do (125mph) otherwise we avoid them; especially in the Alps as you end up in long s...

Re: British scientists invent 'artificial petrol'
There are a few questions to answer first: 1. Does the planet need "saving"? 2. Why switch from tried and true? There is heaps of oil yet and we are not going to run out anytime soon. I know the doomsayers claim we will, but I remember when it was all going to be gone by 1976 and there are more rese...
