Re: high oil temperature light
To be honest did not even know there was a high temp light
Hand book really useful, if illuminated whilst driving oil is too hot
= reduce speed and drive GENTLY until the light has extinguised and the pointer on the oil temperature gauge has fallen below 150C. If light fails to extinguish after a few minutes stop the car and switch off the engine. Seek qualified hep before restarting.
Is the oil temp gauge showing high as well as the illuminated light?
just a thought .... it is the high temperature light showing not the low oil pressure one?

Re: high oil temperature light
hey that something new again, the second time in a week,
At the day I discovered a light for the seat belts, after 10 years of driving my F never discovered this one and now you pop up with the oil light being able to read out for high temperature. I feel like a novice
Back on subject: I totally agree have a quick look at the temperature gauge and if temp is OK I would assume you are faced with a low oil pressure. Something I would consider being more serious as a high oil temp.

Re: high oil temperature light
Two separate warning lights for oil - 1 for pressure & 1 for high temp (VVC only) according to my owners manual - if Alan had not mentioned it, I would have not known about the high temperature one.
My F has not got seat belt warning light - I feel deprived I thought it was only the Japanese models that had these fitted?

Re: high oil temperature light
I thought it was low oil, so I put some in at the road side about 400m from home. Light didn't go out, so took mgf back home. light was still on after a 5 hour stand, so found handbook and thats how I knew it meant high temp. But it cant be after being left overnight ......
Having had the car cost me £x's so far this year I dont want to risk that it could be the start of yet another problem.
Still at least i had a few untroubled 100 of miles !!!

Re: high oil temperature light
After giving the circuit diagram (below) a quick once over, the same temperature sensor feeds into the temp gauge and 'over temp' warning light. If the temp gauge is not showing an over temperature problem it might be OK to assume that the 'electronics' are giving an inaccurate conversion to the over temp light?? If so, put a peice of tape over the glowing light and forget it

If you get no further or better response on here, can move it into the technical area

Re: high oil temperature light
cheers Keith. drove it to work today, after looking at that diagram, and it seemed fine, apart from the light still on.
I prefer the more professional fix of removing the bulb rather than tape.
