Re: MGFIM'13 16-18 August 2013. Germany
Hi everyone.
I think it's about time to introduce myself.
My name is Jochen. I've been driving my MGF since March 1999 which makes me the first owner of this car.
It's a VVC (MK1), tahiti blue with red leather interior (please no comments on that !!) and it's been used as a summer car only (from the beginning).
Some facts about this year's MGFIM - which is basically an international "Hunsrücktreffen".
Sign-up:
Lutz will be done within the next days to set up his website to "handle" international guests.
After this you will be able to sign-up officially. Please make sure you're using this feature cause it helps us keeping an overview.
There is no sign-up fee but please let us know as soon as possible in case you have to cancel the trip.
Hotel:
We already contacted hotels that would be big enough to host the complete group. The number of accomodations that are big enough
is pretty small though.
After this is done we will have a certain number of rooms blocked (usually until the end of April or May) and each party will have to do the
hotel registration by himself (eMail is usually sufficient). Make sure you let the hotel know that you're with the MGFIM group.
We as the organization team don't want to be held responsible for anyone not showing up.
Meals:
We will make reservations for lunch and dinner, there will be a limited choice of different meals (should be enough choice to please everyone).
Usually each participant will let us know what the choice of food is (at the beginning of the day) and we will call the restaurants to be set.
This ensures a "higher throughput"
Individual payment by each party should be standard.
More about the most important topic to come: the DRIVING.
I'll follow up soon.
Cheers
Jochen

Re: MGFIM'13 16-18 August 2013. Germany
Another update...
The Driving:
Due to the expected high number of cars we tend to split into 2 groups. We handled 32 cars in one group once without problems but this should be an absolute maximum.
I will create a roadbook (this time in english of course ) but the goal is to stay together in the group. There will be GPS data available for download in different data formats.
Driving style in the past was - hmmm ..... let's call it "sporty".
Having 2 groups opens the chance to split between "fun group" and "sightseeing group". But this is just a first idea.
As always some cars will be equipped with walkie-talkies to react flexible to unplanned stuff.
Sightseeing:
There's not much to write about. We will do some interesting sightseeing. Usually we collect the entrance fees up front and pay the group tariff at the location.
Did I miss something? Please let me know - I'll be checking this thread on a regular base.
It's great to see that a lot of people are interested !! This makes the organizational work a lot more fun.

For anyone interested a plan is being hatched to stay in Blanlemberg, near Hennef, Cologne on the way down on the Thursday night and / or the way back Sunday night. Know of a great restaurant and hotel with plenty parking there

Thank you Colin for introducing our plan
We would stay at my hometown 53773 Hennef - Stadt Blankenberg about 30 miles south-east of Cologne.
It´s a small medieval town with a population of about 250 people inside a town wall.
Here are some pics, so everyone who likes to come can have an idea of where to stay
It would be fantastic if we could welcome you

Hi Steffi
Haus Sonnenschein looks good; think Lyn and I could manage that - but could you get the snow cleared before August please.

It's looking good Steffi, shame it's nine months away. But we'll meet before then, how about a London weekend next time you're over, our treat ?
