1914-1918 Great War Commemorative Tour

Post by adrianclifford » Mon Nov 11, 2013 7:23 pm

Following on from the original thread in the General section here : viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16329 I have started this thread in the European section to keep it alive and up to date.

Full details can be found here on the MGCC Belgium site including the registration form : http://www.mgcarclub.be/event2014

In a nutshell it runs from Saturday 3rd May until Monday 5th May and it has the full support of the City of Nieuwpoort and the Provincial Government of West Flanders. Tours will run on all three days of the area around Ypres and the Saturday evening finishes after the playing of the Last Post under the Menin Gate with drinks, fountains, music and a laser show to follow until 23.00.

The MGCCB have organised affordable accommodation too, details are on their web-site in the link above. I am promoting this in my region, the Essex Roadsters and the Anglia Centre, so..

Who's going ?

Adrian & Dawn.. registered, paid, accommodation booked and paid. Ferries planned Friday DFDS to Dunkerque at 12.00, back to Dover Monday at 18.00

That would be ideal Colin but it needs a moderator to do it.

Original post has been moved into the European area with a ghost link remaining in the General section.

Yes, it needs a moderator to move the thread but Colin, you are one, so you could have done it yourself.

I did look into doing it Keith but in all the edit options I saw no way to move it so left it 8-)

Probably should be messaging the organisers but does anybody know where the Saturday Evening Meet & Greet will be taking place?

I don't know John, I assume this will be in the roadbook details. Clive is in Holland for a few days, I'm sure he'll answer that on his return or next time he checks in with the forum.

I am currently booking 2 nights at Floreal (2 & 3 May) and 1 night at the Ibis Kortrijk Centrum on 4th which is recommended if you are doing the Monday tour. Is this what anyone else is doing? Or are you staying 3 nights at Floreal because this appears to be the same cost as 2 nights and so saves the Ibis cost but increases the driving distances? It would be a shame to be split up for the last night.

Pete, we're staying three nights self catering (Friday -Sunday) at the Floreal as it's right at the event site (Marina has checked it out for me last week).

We arrive in Dunkerque at 15.00 local and drive straight there. We leave on the 18.00 from Dunkerque so we have all day on Monday to follow the Monday tour(s).

We are coming over on the Friday around 8 to go via Cambrai in France as it's our regimental battle honour and I have never been. Then back on the 1800 on the Monday with everyone else. Planning to stay at the floreal resort if they are out of apartments then perhaps camping.

Cool, see you there then. If you are in the Floreal we can meet there for a beer or evening meal (maybe there or in town). Do you want my mobile number ?, I'll pm it to you.

As there's a few of us it will be good to meet up somewhere as we all don't know each other. Most of us will meet on the outbound ferry though.

We can meet up on the 12.00 ferry then. The others we will meet at the Floreal, I'm sure a few of us will be wearing something MG related for ease of identification. Some time in the evening in the bar ?
