Advice required
I have finally bitten the bullet and purchased a 2001 MF Trophy with 35K on the clock. I am concerned about getting insurance a lot of companies value the car at approx. £1000, Where can I get insurance which reflects the true value of the car. Secondly the Hydrogas suspension what happens when this goes can I get replacement parts? or will I have to fit a Suplex replacement and if so how does this effect the car?

Replacement spheres will more than likely be second hand but you could always buy a few and keep in the garage just in case.
Suplex or that Oz kit are the only other direct replacements at the moment.
The only other alternative is to swap front and rear subframes and up/down grade for a tf set up.
As for insurance you could phone Bromwall insurance and ask for my friend Dave Walton. Tell him Jason said to call for advice, don't need to buy from him but he is the most straight talking insurance broker I know.

Hi Viv, have you tried any of these ? Lancasters 0800-988-9536 or Pete Best 01376 573 033 and one other Footman James 0844 875 0576 all specialists. As for the suspension no real problem getting parts with second hand parts available if new is not, we normally have some in stock, would be very unlucky to go at such a low mileage. So no you do not have to change to Suplex. Davek church square

Just remember that as I understand it the trophy Spheres are different to the other MGF's. As is the wheel alignment settings.

I have an agreed value insurance with Peter Best. I wouldn't worry about the spheres - this a low risk unless you have a reason to be concerned. I have one sphere with a minor leak that is taken care of by a twice yearly pump up with my cheapo hydrolastic pump.

Unless the suspension is currently lower than it should be then I wouldn't worry about what could happen. If it is lower (Trophy's sit lower than other' F's by the way) get it set to the correct height and work from there. Peter Best Insurance who I am with have 'agreed value' insurance, you submit a number of photograph (prints) for examination also it doesn't work on the no claims bonus. Low mileage use will attract a lower premium as wil being a member of the MG Car Club, (worth it anyways). Welcome to Trophy ownership, it is a happy world, can we see a pic of it?

If you're on low annual mileage Peter Best should be good for you, better if you're an MGCC member as has been said. Try Steve Marsh on A Plan 01908 271771 tell him you're from the MGF Register.
Trophy's should sit at 345mm as opposed to the 368mm of a standard F measured from wheel cap centre to underside of the front wheel arch by the way.

Peter Best worked out around 85 quid for my F.

Thank you for the advice good people, the F is now back home, picked it up on London, 600 miles and 12 hours later home in Aberdeenshire, including fuel stops and pick my car up from the airport, an average of 50 mile per hour......................................................fuel consumption 41mpg, who needs an eco car. On Monday into winter storage along side the other cars.
PS 600 miles, the ride was firm but very comfortable and well planted, where does the reputation of a bone shaker come from?

As I wrote in the latest issue of FasTForward, the automotive press described the Trophy as riding on the firm side of hard.

Congratulations on your Trophy, looks a cracking example. IMO they are superbly set up cars. Roll on the spring to get out and enjoy it.

It is correct but Steve Marsh is not there any longer. Do PB do a policy that's more than 5K per year, I was happy with them and the agreed value price but couldn't keep within 5K.

Is there any difference in insuring lhd vehicles in the UK? Just asking as there isn’t over here with rhd ones.

Hi Col, not now. The special plan made by Steve for F's and TF's is still there if you ask, so it's worth it, but it's not the same service without Steve.
