Re: Seen 2
I had that dilemma when I bought my Range Rover, so I paid for a Car Inspection Service to go and look at it for me, they give the car a complete once over and produce a written report and phone you up to go through it. It does cost a bit (£300) so it all depends how much the car is, but the report is guaranteed.
Alternatively put the word about on here or other forums to see if anyone is in either area that could go and look for you.

Re: Seen 2
I've bought several cars at a distance through ebay, you have to go through the detail carefully, look on google street view to see what the area is like, contact the seller and ask a few questions
and
don't be afraid to walk away.

Checking the MoT history of a car might also help, if just to see whether the previous owner(s) had the car regularly serviced to avoid trouble or just run the car down and have the MoT man change only the badly worn parts. Also, it’s useful for checking the mileage is genuine.
