Performance mod specialists in South

Hi,

After neglecting my MGF (1.8i) for several years, I've started to enjoy it again now, and have decided that adding a few performance enhancements would be fun. Much as I'd love to get my hands dirty and add these myself, I don't really have the time or the expertise. So, I'm looking for somewhere in the south of England (preferably around Berkshire), that is recommended for MG performance enhancements.

I've already got a K&N air filter fitted, and uprated discs/pads. I was thinking of basic stage 1/2 engine improvements and a few suspension tweaks, such as
- new exhaust
- 52mm throttle body
- forced induction kit
- uprated suspension/ dampers
- poly bushes
- lowering kit
- rear tie bar
- TF steering rack
- ECU remap (?)

Not necessarily all at once, and I would really need some advice on what would be the best order to have the work done, plus exactly which parts to consider and the relative merits of each. I'm happy to source parts myself, and then have them fitted, or for a specialist to supply and fit.

I remember a long while ago Techspeed in Leamington seemed to be the experts (with some specialised Bilstein dampers) but they seem to have disappeared now.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places I could contact?

Thanks very much,

Balders.

They most certainly are still going strong :) I have a nasty feeling I had the last set of bilsteins off them. Chat with Marvin: no idea whether there are plans to get another batch of their unique spec dampers made...

There are changes a foot at Techspeed which Steve & Ali heard about at MG Live. Techspeed are selling their garage facilities and if I understood it correctly, dropping the road car work and concentrating on the race cars, but I could be wrong.

Techspeeds future is unclear at the moment and Marvin is deliberating on his plans for the future.
I can however confirm their premises has been sold and emptied and so they are not taking on road car work, hence the website has been closed.
I am still in touch with marvin and hoping to catch up with him again soon so will keep you posted.

I can however highly recommend Austin Garages in Burton on Trent, though they are even further north.

MJS will come to you and do that sort of thing as long as it's a simple bolt job, or they have a workshop near Worthing.

All of that work can be done by one of the mobile mechanics, MG rover solutions, MJS auto & marine, rough luck racing (Jon Norris) they all travel. Z & F are based in Banbury but attend many meets. They also do a postal service for remaps.

I waited for Steve to comment on TS as he and Al have been closer to them. They recently did a service for me however it transpired that their latest MG mechanic came in to do my car having left them to work for J-LR. There were only 2 cars in the building, mine and Rob B's waiting collection.
A sad loss of a what were the most experienced people for MG track cars who willingly took care of our mundane hobby cars.
I have tried another MG Expert in Coventry who have cost me dearly so have infact today been to Luffield in Loughborough.
The cheapest are the most expensive as you pay twice to put it right.

Sorry Chris, but as of last weekend, Daryl has stopped trading, I have emails, texts and Facebook PMs from him to that effect, he was a sponsor on another forum and has removed his profile. He has some legal issues he is dealing with at the moment and will reopen when they are dealt with.

Thanks for that update - I had heard the rumours regarding Tech-Speed but had not had any of them confirmed.

I need to drop Marvin a line. Steve do you have any other contact for Marvin? I think I only have the line for the Mill.

I agree with you Geoff: if TS has stopped doing road car work, it will be a huge shame! I have had a relationship with TS for dork on my cars for over 10 years, and my cars have been faultlessly reliable as a result.
Business is business and unfortunately the Mill has spent much of the last 6 months under water due to flooding - flippin' global warming! :(

I guinely hope that this isn't the end of an era. Looks like we were lucky to get in when we did Geoff. Dave Livingstone had just had his F almost completely restored by Keith a couple of weeks before...

With respect to MGF Reborn, I think they're trading, but Darryl has just acquired the whole company and perhaps that's where the ambiguity has arisen? He's certainly been helping Chris out with his emissions problems...

Crumbs, there's certainly been a lot of change recently hasn't there? :-?

Rob, I believe the phone number for TS is still operational, Mavin was talking of having it diverted to his mobile when we spoke at MG live.
I'll try and catch Marvin there this week.
