He does from time to time.

Here's the original sales brochure:

Image

Basically they're standard MGFs with a few choice factory options, to which Fairways added the Krafthaus (KH) "Cheetah" Body kit - but not, sadly, the supercharged engine! They're pretty rare - only around 35 or so sold IIRC. As they're a dealership special, they won't have the same value if they'd been ex-factory, but still pretty desirable nonetheless. :)

Well I can confirm he bought it for less than he sold his standard F for. It needs some work to get it up to scratch but is roadworthy. So between my direct group of friends we now have:

2x MGF MK1 MPI
1X MGF MK1 VVC
1X MGF TROPHY
1X MGF PANTHER MPI

Not a bad collection going on.

I wonder if Fairways ended up in the same amount trouble with BMW that Stephan Palmer got into and as a result were stripped of their Rover franchise.

They didn't try to steal the company's thunder by releasing a supercharged MGF before their own prototype was launched at Geneva, so no, probably not Chris!

Personally I don't get the panther.. (Only my opinion)

Standard car? With a body kit (which I don't think looks nice) and an electric hood that takes 30 times longer to go up and down than the manual version.. Then breaks..

I get the Cheetah.. After all +200 bhp can only be good.. But the panther?

Or have I missed something?

The Super Sport was a much better looking car and had some (anyone got proper details) upgrades to brakes etc..

Looks are subjectice (sp).

Some would think the electric hood is progress.

Strangely enough the electric hood is gone.

It does have a little more than just a body kit.

Full leather only available on Panther
Carbon centre and vents
Stainless exhaust
Safety devices roll hoops

As for the looks they are something different and it is F history that deserves looking after. I agree the asking price new was far too high but at £750 it was cheaper than a lot of standard F's (he sold his standard one for £950)

Body kits are always subjective - and yes, the Panther was all mouth and no trousers, but it is an interesting bit of MGF history, and some people do get the "look"

What are the plans for this car Tony? Not having the electric roof is a good thing!

If they'd made a decent electric hood that worked quickly and reliably.. and was pure button only (no manually undoing catches etc) Id have one..

I personally.. would prefer the look of the Panthers kit if it was smoothed in..

His first job has been to sort the overheating issues.

I know he is trying to source the correct front bumper or find someone capable of modifying the almost standard front bumper (arch extentions only) it has fitted due to a front end knock on its life. I am hoping he keeps it almost standard or at least any mods should be reversible

I think the front bumper has been hard to source for a while now. Matt Parker had a spare, but I think has now used it. I don't know whether the original moulds still exist: BMH took over the KH splitter and may have the rest of the body kit?
