N817 SVC

Post by janiepb » Sun Jan 19, 2020 3:31 pm

We are now in the restoration stages and after many attempts at paint removal we have found the logo of Sewards Rover MG painted on the boot lid.

Having always assumed the car would not have been released for sale by Rover until 1998 and even then sold without a warranty etc., it seems strange that the car was painted red and the interior and wheels upgraded to those of a mark 2.

Has anyone ever seen this advertising on an MGF before, or is there anyone who knows of any of its previous owners ?

It would be great to piece the history together.

The logo you found was that of Sewards sponsorship of Bournemouth FC. They gave-up being MG Rover agents on the demise of MG Rover and then took on Renault, in September 2005 I think. They were based in Portsmouth.

That's a blast from the past - I got N7 serviced by them some years ago!

Love the vehicle archeology there - but I don't recall having seen this car in period, sorry!

I still have their logo on my BRG's rear number plate from when they did it's first hgf at 36k miles. Their handiwork lasted 96k miles with plastic dowels. I then had it done with mls(Russell) and steel dowels which lasted fine till the cambelt gave way a month before it was booked in for 5 year replacement at 55k miles. The next mls (Russell) also lasted fine till I refitted the orignal (refurbished) head. But that one may have been defective as I struggled with intermittent overheating for a year till last summer when I changed it for a reasonably expensive MG specialist mls kit off ebay. The old one was delaminated rusty and fell apart as I removed it.
Fingers crossed - Well over 200k miles 'on the original engine'. Don't fear the hgf reaper.
