Insurance

Hi all

Just got an insurance quote for my 2001 F from Peter Best at £650.

My last 2000 F with them was only about £200 so a bit disappointing, apparently 2001 doesn’t qualify as ‘classic’.

Any other recommended insurers I can get a quote from?

Cheers

If you are a MGCC member, Cherished Insurance do a special scheme for members.

Thanks Nigel, I did see this and have asked them to give me a call back. So will see what they say…

Cheers

Try Peter James insurance I'm sure they treat cars over 20 years old as a classic? Got to be worth a try..might depend on condition, your mileage etc. But you can only ask!! Good luck..

That's good to hear. Nice people when you chat to them at shows. They have a few MGs among them.

I'm with a French on-line insurer called "Eurofil" - for 3rd party fire & theft with windscreen cover I pay 193€ (£165)

My Y2K MGF costs after cashback for 2K miles pa £76. A price comparison site helps, I'm not interested in Agreed Value. Been with Lancaster as they were the cheapest but they have loaded their premiums and continually 'lose' NCB...

can you clarify Flanners, is that £ 76 premium with Lancaster or a different insurer ? Can NCB apply to a classic car policy, i thought the usual deal was that premiums were so low that NCBs dont apply unless it's being insured as a main, daily vehicle.

Chris, I paid around £300 last year to Cherished for the TF, that was for an additional vehicle so no NCB to transfer. It was a standard social, domestic and pleasure policy, my wife drives it all the time these days. I always get quotes when our cars come up for insurance renewal and normally use confused.com. Earlier my wife’s insurance on her Mercedes came up for renewal and confused.com quoted £508, her existing insurer renewed for £305!, it pays to check around. I found Footman James to be very pushy when I called them.
I also understood that “Classic Car Insurance” came with both mileage and usage restrictions plus no NCB discount.
