Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Brilliant piece of craftsmanship ... and at a very reasonable price!
No way to get this one through German inspection (TÜV) to get it recorded in the papers though, I'm afraid

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Art, what happened to Mk's 5 & 6, did I miss them ?
Interesting idea, I wonder what it will sound like ?

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
I think the missing numbers relate to some other non F projects Neil is/was working on so 7 was the next logical number in the sequence, I am sure Neil will be about later.

Not sure about 5 (I think it was a non-starter for the MX-5), but 6 is designated for the MG6...adrianclifford wrote:Art, what happened to Mk's 5 & 6, did I miss them ?

If I could sell my TTMK3 for a reasonable price, I would be all over this!

That naughty Mr Willets! Might be time for a change - the Mike Satur system on my car at the moment is starting to look rather sorry for itself...
Thanks for posting Art

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Looks like the finishers are welded on as opposed to my MK4 which were separate.
So what are the benefits of the double/split boxes?

Better gas flow? Not sure - ask Neil - but the other benefit is that they look terrific!

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
the engineer in me (and I've not touched gas / fluid flows for 20 years, so I may be totally wrong, but i would be interested to see the gas flow model (computer analysis) where the 1 pipe splits into 2. I can't help feeling there would be a negative effect there. Hope I'm wrong though!

You may be right Colin. I could imagine a pressure wave would be set up at the point of bifurcation? No idea whether this has been designed with gas flow analysis results in mind or not? I don't think that this is a unique design for an exhaust system, so perhaps there is a good precidence for this configuration?

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Reflections in an exhaust system are not always bad in a road car of course. Depends on what is needed at the exhaust port when they arrive. I didnt buy a TT as Jane is from Scotland and I didnt want to be regaining my hearing to have a chat with the in-laws just before setting off home again. They do sound good though, in laws and TT of course!

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
As I understand it, this one has been designed to be the loudest TT yet. You're right though, there is a precedent in that the Mazda MX5 Mk3 (2005 onwards) has a similar style with a single pipe splitting centrally into two separate boxes each with their own outlet on either side of the car.Rob Bell wrote:You may be right Colin. Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Thanks Martin - but seriously, this is meant to be louder? Crumbs...MartinW wrote:As I understand it, this one has been designed to be the loudest TT yet. I had a Mk1 before I passed it on to Kim in New Zealand. Sounded utterly fantastic - my wife could hear me approaching from a mile off... which in a noisy city like London is some achievement. I fancied a change. And keeping my hearing!
I now have a single-exit TT sports system waiting to be fitted to Project Shed. There's a YouTube video somewhere with this system on someone else's car. Sounds lovely - and with a bone-dome on, not quite so tinnitus inducing
Not heard this new one - the picture is of Neil's first prototype, so I doubt that anyone's heard it just yet... I think I'll pop over to the Surrey Lab mothership once it has landed there and report back

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Reading elsewhere from a more recent post by Neil, it seems this one won't be the loudest, but is designed as a road going exhaust unlike the other which were apparently race track inspired. Although I could have sworn I saw something to the effect in earlier posts that it was to be the loudest or maybe the ultimate and I misinterpretted that. Apologies for that.

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
No worries
Have to say it is probably the ultimate system he's done so far in terms of looks!

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
I doubt any race-track inspired version would be louder as they have to pass the 120db ( I think ?) noise limit. Road going of course, have no such limitations do they ?.

Re: TT Mk.7 sneak preview
Vehicle homologation yes, they will have to be quiet enough to pass drive by noise regulations. But there isn't anything really regulating the aftermarket - except police can stop vehicles making "excessive" noise...
