Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

2011 TF creaking rear suspension

Post by Johnny » Sun May 15, 2016 9:46 am

2011 with only 15,000 miles. Creaks on both rear sides. It can be heard just by lifting on the rear wings by hand. Any ideas? Thanks John

Lack of use may have something to do with it. A regional member has just bought a 2009 TF with 13,000 miles it creaks too.
Bilstein shocks, Piper 4-2-1 manifold, Daytona, Vader cold-air induction, custom Z and F Stage 2 re-map, Electric boot release, braided hoses, Blue Magnecor leads, Technozen relays, Stage 1 head, BMW Angel Eyes headlights, "MG" puddle lights.

As Adrian says - may be lack of use? TF deleted grease nipples at the rear, but are still present at the front.

Thanks Adrian. That's interesting. I've put a thousand miles or so on mine in the last couple of months. No discernible improvement. Is your regional member going to get it investigated? I yhink I've read that there were defective shocks fitted to dome of the LEs by the way. Recall job. John

And thanks Rob. I will take a look at the fronts. Is there any particular type of grease that should be used?

Liberal use of WD40 required. However, make sure that it is the suspension causing the squeak.

John, I don't think Nigel means WD40 for the front suspension, but may be a solution for the rear - see viewtopic.php?t=8121 :)

Heavy duty lithium grease for the inner suspension arm pivots if memory serves :)

Hi Johnny, oh yes, it's going in to British Legends later this month. Steve will sort it out.

By the way, have you sent me details of the car for the Register ? There are no 2011 cars, production finished in 2010 and the last few cars (with A in the vin) have the larger mirrors.

Thanks Nigel and Adrian. Would be interested to hear the diagnosis/treatment Adrian.

My car is MGTF 135 registered 1 January 2011. Platinum Silver - paint code 288. Fitted with the style pack inc peppertwist 16 inch wheels. Black leather interior. 15,000 miles. Is there anything else you would like to know

Yes please but not here, please send, via e mail or a pm, the registration number, vin number, original dealer, engine and body numbers. Details of where these can be found were in a recent Safety Fast or I can tell you.

Engine number is on the cam belt cover or your V5 document, the body number is in the boot, left hand side by the aerial, gently lift the rubber gasket and pull forward the carpet between the two fixing studs and you will see a plate on the forward facing bulkhead that will say CJTF200 then five more numbers.

Many thanks and I'll update you on his progress.

Adrian
