Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Power Steering light

Post by Humpy 51 » Mon Aug 05, 2019 3:23 pm

Hi everybody. Had my "f" for four days now and love it too bits. Went out yesterday no problems, left him in the drive for two hours, went to put him away for the night, no power steering! Any ideas anyone? Also what would be the best code reader to get, preferably with key coding abilities.

Try checking/cleaning the big fuse on the left front wing first.
You don't give an age for your car but even if it is a really late F it probably won't entirely work with a standard OBD2 reader. Pscan is the dedicated best option or if you regularly come across unicorns and hens teeth you could use a T4 which was MGR's dealer kit.

Going to get a Pscan but he`s away in Spain till the 15`th. Cleaned the fuse and I`m getting a feed both sides of the fuse so no problem there. I have to wonder if I dislodged something when I was doing the speedo shroud but I can`t see anything amiss there.

Have you taken the car out for a drive since, it may clear automatically.

Where on the south coast are you?
I can plug my pscan in if you bring the car to me in Horsham.

Thanks for the offer. I`m down in Worthing but I`m expecting my pscan to arrive in the next couple of days. When I plug it in and get an answer I`ll let everybody know.

Plugged the pscan in, control module fault. One second hand module later, back to only needing two weatabix for breakfast. Oh what a joy to have power steering again. Impressed with the pScan, easy to set up and easy to use.

Great update thanks! :thumbsu:

I've not come across an EPAS ECU fault before - what was the module fault shown on pscan?
