Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Hi,
So I have posted 3 times now in as many days, I think my car is testing me now as I keep mending problems with it, thanks to you guys!!!!!
So I have just bumped into my garage neighbour from around the corner and he tells me that my alarm goes off loads during the night while locked away inside and its doing his nut in...fair enough!
How do I stop this from happening, where do I start to look for an answer, I know nothing about electrics so any help is much appreciated!!!!
cheers,
Kev

Lock it with the key not the fob.

I would check the cables that go via the boot lid to the boot lock. I have read that they nearly all break near the hinge. I learned of this and found mine just in time.
My insulation was broken but wire was Ok. I assume the boot lid is wired to the alarm system.

Someone using their (leaky) microwave close by, and close proximity to taxi ranks and hospitals have all been known to set the alarm off.

I have had an ongoing problem with my MGF car alarm, which frequently sounds when the ambient temperature is high - like now (spanish summer time)!! The problem has been a lot worse recently. I can stop the problem by locking the car with the key, rather than using the remote fob.
I believe that the volumetric sensor is faulty. I checked the availability via Rimmer Bros and they can ship the sensor ship ex-stock.
When replacing the microwave sensor unit on MGFs prior to VIN WD030082 (1998), a link harness YMQ103410 must also be fitted. My MGF VIN is SARRDWBTCAD022706 (1997). Unfortunately, Rimmer Bros don't stock the harness! Any suggestions where I can source the correct sensor together with the harness????

I would just unplug the sensor to check it's that.
