Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

I had a misfire similar to the one you describe and it was one of the coil pack that was loose. Tightened the bolt and it was fine after that (not sure if it uses this to earth itself). I changed the plugs and leads trying to cure it and it was only when I thought that I had a duff coil pack that I discovered the fault.

Hi David

Coil packs are secure as it is the later wasted spark system they are mounted directly above the plugs was leaning towards a dodgy coil but a bit curious why it should run fine once it gets over about 3k.

Is the head gasket OK? No I am not joking these symptoms are quite common indicator that gasket is leaking slightly.

Hi Dell, one thing to check is the HT Leads from the Coil Packs, we've had the symptoms before and they've been shorting out on the CamCover Bolts as they are routed past them. Try re-routing them to test it and if its ok then replace the leads.

Thanks guy for the sugestions :thumbsu: there are no obvious signs of HGF ie mayo but of course that is by no means any sort of gaurantee it is ok but all the plugs looked a nice uniform colour so there are no obvios signs of a dodgy cylinder. The HT leads are defianatly worth another look as it was all boxed up again b4 we tested it.
