Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

MG Luggage rack

Post by tauntonvilla » Sat Apr 26, 2014 6:07 pm

About to use mine for the 1st time, Just wondering how secure they are. Are they to be trusted or should I use a strap.

It's the genuine MG product with interlocking case.

Thanks In advance

Both, the case and the rack are also well known at BMW motor bikes.
(The old Z3 convertible used to have the same design ... with Z3 badge of course)

I use it since 15 years now and never had any problems without a strap.

Great to see you on here again Dieter :thumbsu:

That looks different to the boot racks we know Dieter VTF100000 I believe is the part number

Steffi has one and we used it at Christmas time

No holes through the boot lid with this one 8-)

Like Dieter, we have used one for many years and last month took it down the French Autoroute at 80+ MPH to Switzerland again. The biggest problem is that people wave at you to tell you that you have lost the strap.
The seal is suppose to be waterproof however in heavy rain at speed, I would not guarantee this hence we carry a roll of Duct Tape for inclement weather.
The Chrome Caps for the holes are not unsightly however we have a 2nd lid with the same key lock and 6mm location holes in the hinges (and 2 stubby screwdriver pins) to align it when changing.
They come in SS (BMW) and Chrome (MGR). If Secondhand, ensure that you have the underlid steel support brackets.
Geoff F,
P.S. Dieter, long time no beer together !!
