Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.
Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.
Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway!
Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Knocking noise
My Tf has a knocking noise that seems to be coming from the rear and seems to be either centre/nearside area.
The odd thing is its not there all the time, it only knocks when braking from approx 40mph or more, i have tried heavy braking at 20 or 30 and its not there, there is no knock when running over bumps/pot holes or cornering either.
I have checked wheel nuts and checked the rear callipers are tight etc.
Has anyone had this before and could point me in the right direction please?

Re: Knocking noise
CV joints???
Diff backlash???
Very loose engine/gearbox mount???
Loose subframe mounts???
Loose muffler mountings????
When you brake hard the whole thing gets a real good thumping.
Imagine a 150 kg person with no seat belt, that's what happening back there when you jump on the brakes.

Hi
Have you checked the compliance bushes. They are at the front corners of the rear subframe and connect it to the lower rear arm.

Re: Knocking noise
Lots of things to check - to this already pretty comprehensive list, I might add in moving brake pads, but the sounds are quite distinctive.

Re: Knocking noise
Thanks for all the replies.
Certainly lots to check.
Its quite a heavy knock so im not sure about loose brake pads but as it looks like ill be getting the car in the air with the wheels off ill certainly give them a look.
Its almost as if there is something heavy and metal rolling forward in the boot when i brake, i have of course ruled this out though.
Im suspecting a bush or ball joint? are they an easy change?

Re: Knocking noise
It could be the engine moving under torque reaction - one of the engine mounts may be on the way out? Also look at the suspension/subframe - the subframe mounts in particular are prone to alarming corrosion...
