Forum rules
Not many rules really, this board being aimed at technical issues, it shouldn't fall foul (hopefully) of some of the more personal issues that can affect forums.

Rule 1 - Is that you need to think very carefully before posting anything technical or asking anything technical relating to the security system of the car - See 'Security Issues' sticky for more info.

Rule 2 - We (MGF Register) do not support copyright infringement and therefore references to CD ROM, PDF versions or paper copies of the workshop manual (for instance) should not be posted on the forum. We don't want to get into trouble and we'd rather sell you a genuine hard copy through our Regalia shop anyway! :)

Because advice is honestly and freely given in this technical section, much of it will be amateur experienced based, so any information is given in good faith and is not guaranteed as correct.

Drivers seat reclines its self

Post by Tiger_70 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:25 pm

The front seat on my 2003 TF115 reclines its self as I drive the car. After driving for about an hour the hand wheel on the right hand side will need turning about half a turn to put the seat back, back to the right position.

Is this a common problem ?

Can the mechanism be tightened up to stop it adjusting its self ?

Hi Tiger_70,

and welcome to the MGF Register and it's forum!

Personally I have no idea, but there should be people who know along here soon!

Not come across this problem before... Odd. Not looked that closely at the mechanism, but it does sound as though yours needs some form of adjustment - but whether this is possible or not is another question.

On the face of it, from the on-line EPC (http://www.mgfcar.de/epc/4265.htm), it doesn't look all that promising. You might need a replacement seat recline mechanism... :(

Yeah, mine does it, it's a bit annoying. I just turn it back when I get in the car each day.

:D Had a look at the seat mechanism, there appears to be a friction adjustment at the opposite side to the hand wheel for reclining the seat back (on the left hand side of the seat) its a hex bolt head with a nylon washer below. Gave it about half a turn, this has tightened up the adjuster hand wheel and the problem seems to have gone.
