MGF race car for sale
Due to lack of space on my driveway I am having to sell my ex-Japan Cup MGF race car. It is now listed on ebay.

What series are you going to race it in?
The PBIC is cracking as should have 6 other F's this season we are a friendly bunch

Re: MGF race car for sale
Why do MGFs run in a separate class to all the other cars? Seems a little odd to me.car13 wrote:What series are you going to race it in?

Re: MGF race car for sale
In the Peter Best we have 3 main classes based on regs from the MGCC made before the F's and Z'eds had been made.Rob Bell wrote:Why do MGFs run in a separate class to all the other cars? Seems a little odd to me.car13 wrote:What series are you going to race it in?

A Standard
B Modified
C Race
However over the years new models have been introduced and the series has wanted to match power/weight and new suspension vs old suspension to get even racing
in the classes.
The MGF is a prime example as MG Trophy cars were 143bhp and so when drivers wanted to run in other series even that they are pretty standard they had a big advanatge on a
a stock A series Midget or B series B in class A.
However to make cars eligable for many series (there are not that many race cars) clubs tried to get similar regs so cars could move from MGOC, MGCC to differnt events. The MGF's were however not quicker than the class B cars which include 3.9V8's, 3.5 V8's, Couple of ZS V6's, ZR 160's, 150bhp MGB (8v push rod engines expensive not my cup of tea) and 120 bhp Midgets weighing a lot less.
Class C is ful on race spec with vhpd 192 bhp 750 kilo MGB's and 250bhp MGB V8's and many others.
So it was decided to allow the f's to have there own class. They can be quicker than class A and some class B cars but as the other series regs have changed they all seem to run a superchip and push 160bhp now so could go into class B, however those registered in class F voted against this which is fine.
The series is great fun, good clean racing with the biggest grids and close racing in the MGCC. And unlike the other series it support all the MGCC rounds.

Re: MGF race car for sale
Cool to be fair last race of the year Sams F was right at the front of the pack beating most Class C cars and B. His car was clearly well set up for wet tracks.Rob Bell wrote:Thanks for that explanation - makes sense to me now
The best part of the PBIC each race you running against differnt cars as some suit long fast tracks (V8's) and some the more twisty short (F's, Midgets)
Iam clearly biased as I race in it, but I think it is the best series within the MGCC.

Re: MGF race car for sale
I still habour the desire to go racing - and found the other day the technical regs I picked up from the driver's meeting for the 2003 Abingdon Trophy (as it was known then). There was, at that time, a 1.8 and VVC class! ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
First things first - and first I need to get Project Shed ready for the MGCCSC 2012 series. Unfortunately as a road-going modified, it won't be eligible for racing in the PBIC - so that'll have to be another project car!
Felt a spur of impetous yesterday, as I saw an MGF Cup car being pepared in a TF500LE shell at Tech-speed, and had a good look at the donor vehicle that had been used in a Sprint and hillclimb championship...

Re: MGF race car for sale
Why go for an MGF though Rob? In my line of business an MGF or Zed would be ideal but i'm planning to enter the PBIC this year in a 2.0i MG Maestro. They're cheap to pick up, there's enough around and if it's your first time in competition then they're reliable and easy to fix.
Just a thought.

Re: MGF race car for sale
Maestros seem so hard to find these days. I did look into getting a Maestro 7 or 8 years ago. They're cheap, but even back then, pretty hard to come by in reasonable condition. And then I started to get side tracked by the nostalgia of buying one of BL's brilliantly looney innovations - no, not the square steering wheel, but the digital dashboard and voice synthesizer of the Mk1 1600 MG Maestro... The 2.0L EFi is a better car though. ![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_e_smile.gif)
Steve, did you buy a car already prepared, or did you prepare it yourself? The former option is certainly the sensible one financially (although I am sure that there are pitfalls to avoid), the latter, perhaps a bit more "fun"

Re: MGF race car for sale
They are rare as a road car but there's still quite a few as Race Cars. My first Race Maestro was prepared from scratch by Motobuild to my spec as i wanted a car i could learn with that didnt have any teething problems and that in theory handles and went well enough to keep me mid-field.
After i sold it i purchased a Metro GTi which i built myself to Drayton Manor Spec - it was time consuming and more expensive than i originally planned.
So this time i'm going for a Race Prep'd car that has been built by someone else over the last 4 years as his spare. Untested i borrowed it, Track Day'd it and then raced it at MGLive last year and it went well straight out of the box. The price he's asking for it is wasy below the cost of building from scratch taking into consideration the little extras like Lap Timing Transponders, Regulation Tyres etc.
I still think that after all these years that the Maestro is a good starter because it's reliable and cheap to maintain.
