***FOR SALE - MGF 1.8VVC - SPARES / REPAIR***

Post by MustGoFaster » Sun Jul 17, 2016 9:41 pm

Hi,

It is with heavy heart that I am selling my much loved MGF, unfortunately it has finally failed its MOT- there was some welding required and wouldn't pass the emissions test - the garage suspect its the head gasket!! That said, it is a runner and was used daily (summer and winter!)for my commute until just recently.

I can't afford to have it fixed - quoted in excess of £800 - and unfortunately am not in anyway mechanically gifted....

Thought I would see if anyone wanted it for spares or repair.... would rather it go to an MG lover rather than the local scrap yard... I'm a big believer in organ donation :)

Its an Xreg - 2001, silver, hood in reasonable condition.

What welding is required?

What were the emissions doing?

Emissions highly unlikely to be a gasket failure. The car has a K-series engine. Many mechanics see an MGF with a flat tyre and they'll blame the head gasket.

The rotten subframe mount is probably the blue mount that you would buy separately. It costs £25 - but chances are you'd probably want to replace all of them.

Best thing to do is to take a picture and see whether any welding is actually necessary.

On MGFs though, the biggest problem right now is the rear of the sill rusting through. That is a wallet buster if you can't do the work yourself.

Long and short, DON'T PANIC: I think you'll be able to get this car fixed for a lot less than the £800 that has been suggested :)

Thanks to you all for the advice, much appreciated :-)
I will have a look at the weekend and take some pics of the rust / welding required and go from there.
