Floods in Queensland
It's twenty three months to the day that I reported the worst bush fires in Victoria.
For the past 10 days or so an area larger than France and Germany is underwater in fact the latest news states that 75% of that state is in a state of emergancy with a further 8000 homes in danger. In a some cases the water is over 9 metres high and with the fast flowing flood waters there has now been 9 confirmed dead with some 66 people missing.
Queensland has a thriving MG CC with some 800 members and with four reginal centres there must be many MG's under water which will be the least of their owners worrys.
Australia is certanly a land of extremes.
Latest update.
Some 21800 homes are expected to be flooded in Brisbane by 6.00pm our time
Floods water in Grantham expects to reach 21.5 metres which is lower than predicted twelve hours ago.
Yes its still raining.
Over in Western Australia they are having bush fires......

Re: Floods in Queensland
Our thoughts are with you guys in Oz at the moment.
We have family in Adelaide and friends in Sydney and Brisbane. Fortunately those in Brisbane are OK - we spoke to them on Sunday. It also helps that I currently work for an Aussie at the moment - he's generally up to speed on what's happening out there, so keeps us updated.
As I say - our thoughts are with those affected.

We have been watching it on the news and it is just horrifying - and one just can not imagine the size of the affected area. Our thoughts are with you all, whether it be floods or fires - good luck but we all know that the Aussie is a pretty resilient character.

Re: Floods in Queensland
Hi Andrew, we have good friends out there, in Queensland, at the moment, Simon and Ann are staying with their family for their usual winter visit, I've been in regular contact with them to see if they are OK, so far so good but I'm calling again tonight as the situation is changing rapidly.
Please convey our messages of support and sympathy to any of those so affected, it must be so hard to lose all of your possessions and even worse if the situation is life threatening, it's so upsetting to see such devastation on the TV and it's only to get worse. Australia is a country I have fond memories of from my only visit there, I spent six beautiful weeks there in 1980, you are a nation so proud of your country it must really be hurting.

Re: Floods in Queensland
Last night at our first club night of the year and most members on holiday we had a quick whip round, members digging deep raised just over $1000, the club will also be matching every dollar raised.
When we had the bush fires all theMG Clubs in Australia raised some $6500 dollars and Victoria given discretion to where the money went, three local CFA fire brigades which are manned by volenters used the money to help re equipe lost equipment. The goverment gave them a basic ute the money went to suppling pumps and other bits.
We expect all the car MG car clubs around Australia will be doing the same over the next few months.
Queensland had huge floods in 1974 and they recovered, one Mayor was saying that the water level has risen to the same height but then they only had 1400 homes, now there are 3000 all under water.
Queensland and Brisbane has 75% of its area underwater but they certanly have a spirit not unlike the blitz of London in WW2 where everyone pulls together and helps everyone out.
Cars might be under water or rather mud but they can and will be refurbished.
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and support.

Re: Floods in Queensland
Thanks for the insight Andrew. I see the next concern is not the re-build but the coral reef when all of the water empties in to the sea that wonderful coral is under threat from the brown sludge.

Re: Floods in Queensland
Well we now have floods in Victoria, the country area.
We are having an F register weekend away on the 27/28 Feb, the main place we are going to is Creswick which has been in drought conditions for the past 14 years, not any longer the main street under approx 2metres of water. Well in a months time they will be dry and the income from our outing will be more than welcome going on past experiences. We are know where as badley off as Quennsland though.
